Had it once on a road trip. Made the old Dominos recipe seem top shelf. Inedible. I have no idea how they stay in business. Is Pizza Hut still in business? Haven't seen them in forever.

Always remember that the most popular restaurant in the world is probably McDonalds. The most popular beer is Bud Light. etc. etc.The Sybian wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 3:56 pmHad it once on a road trip. Made the old Dominos recipe seem top shelf. Inedible. Re: Culinary Hot Takes
I get it, but Papa John's was completely disgusting. I can understand McD's, it's fast and easy, but fuck, there are a million pizza places and it's not like it takes a long time for them to hear up some pizza. I recall PJ's having incredibly sweet sauce that overpowered everything. And cardboard crust. Unquestionably the worst pizza I've ever eaten.Pruitt3 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 5:25 pmAlways remember that the most popular restaurant in the world is probably McDonalds. Hey guys just ordered pizza!
Papa John’s for the kid and jets for me and the woman. I hope I can survive it. Pray for me.

Re: Culinary Hot Takes
Is that the Motor City Pizza Co double pepperoni one or do you get a different vendor/style offered in your neck of the woods? The double pepperoni is pretty good, but I wish they would offer their supreme pizza. (I know Costco having limited options is a backbone of their business, but...)Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 12:12 pmthe best frozen pizza we've found so far is the detroit-style deep dish that costco sells. that stuff is great, especially at like $6 a pizza or whatever

When we were on Maui they had these frozen stuffed naans that was damn good (and from a brand of Indian that we get here in CO.)DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 10:39 am (I know Costco having limited options is a backbone of their business, but...)

Bucatini is the best long pasta and it's not even a debate.

OK, then tell me why that is the case, mister italian swamper. (Personally, I don't eat long pasta much - easier to eat fork-friendly pasta like rigatoni or penne.)

Re: Culinary Hot Takes
If we're rocking a traditional meatball pasta, I actually prefer something lighter, like angel hair. Otherwise the pasta gets in the way of the pound of meat you're trying to put away. If you're going say, the carbonara route? Hell yeah, bring on the bucatini.

If you google bucatini one of the top three recipe results shares a last name with ljam so I’ll take his word for it.
I also do like it anyway

I don't see where you can make jam out of it.

Holy shit. I have never seen that before. Arrabbiatta, but add some pepperoncini? That sounds amazing and I’m making that this weekend. It’s got my name all over it.

I’ll co-sign this one. Unless I’m making it from scratch or ordering out, I’ll go penne/fusilli 9 times out of 10.

I love Zingerman's...their sandwiches are amazing; breads are great and they make some of the best mac & cheese. I've always thought of them more as a gourmet grocery that does sandwiches.
I would like expensive whiskey.
We only have beer & wine...

You've got ... (goes to google) ... Goodman's right there!
Re: Culinary Hot Takes
Back when I was working, I went to Ann Arbor frequently. A couple of us always made sure to visit Zingerman’s on the trip.

I can attest that Perly's in RVA is quite good.

Part of what I miss from my DC office are some of the unique places
Bubs and Pops (https://bubandpops.com/)---Newer but great hearty sandwich
Greek Deli (https://greekdelidc.com/) -- Kostas is a legend in DC. Huge portions
Well Dressed Burrito (https://thewelldressedburrito.com/) -- Burrito joint running out of a catering kitchen hidden down an alley.
The Best Sandwich Place (https://bestsandwichplace.com/)-- Every sandwich is top notch. Meatball Bah Mi is my go to.

Wasn't a big fan of Goodman's, but I bought pastrami to go once, never actually eaten there. They opened a place called Pastrami House on Springfield Ave. Some really interesting items on the menu, but the pastrami isn't all that good. I like Barth's more than either of those places.

That's a really good description. I never really thought of that place as a deli. Granted, it has changed quite a bit since I was a frequent patron.

This joint is a ten minute walk from my house...
https://www.pancersoriginaldeli.com/
Not among the greatest of the greatest delis... but still so good. The fact that it is three doors away from the drug store where I get my statins and ACE inhibitors kind of keeps my visits to a minimum.

Ok, so I made that recipe that AB described for bucatini arribiatta The two of us, both of whom love spicy, cried it was so good. I’ve been making my own sauce/gravy since I’ve been out of college, and this was without a doubt the best I’ve ever done. I posted it on the ‘Gram. Much recommended.

Re: Culinary Hot Takes
Because of the mention in this thread I got the Motor City Pizza Co pizza from Costco and I have to say it's pretty good.
I actually like it better than the Detroit style place locally (Transplant Pizza) and it's leaps and bounds better than this spot I went to down near the college (Frog and Firkin).
Will definitely buy again.
Also, does anyone dip their pizza in salad dressing? It's a habit I picked up when I was younger because a friend did it. I go with Italian dressing, personally.

No, but it's so weird, because my daughter did this last night. Someone told her it was good, she was not impressed.

I'll do that as an afterthought-type deal... like AB.
There was a brief time when I actually liked Papa John's and the dipping butter sauce. Gross to me now.

Been abusing myself this week and that included eating some Doritos and it struck me today what a genius bit of marketing “Cool” ranch was.
