Might as well go to a hot doc. An old friend ended up marrying his father's oncologist. She was hot.

We did a few scholarship program things where she would write and essay or something and submit with a high school transcript. But we never got any word back on any of them. And we aren’t rich by any means but we missed the cutoff for a bunch by maddeningly slim margins.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 4:48 pm Not starting a new thread for this, but if anyone has some recent relevant experience with trying to procure financial aid outside the institution for a college student without a great academic profile, shoot me a DM.

Apply for EVERYTHING. There are plenty of smaller grants/scholarships that go to people that are barely qualified because they don't have applicants. My nephew got a local VFW scholarship even though the closest to a VFW member the family has is an uncle in the reserves because no one applied. Also if you do have the institution in mind try to get a FA advisor ASAP. Half the battle is getting through the red tape and knowing someone you can go directly to may uncover some additional monies from things tied to the program, school, etc.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 4:48 pm Not starting a new thread for this, but if anyone has some recent relevant experience with trying to procure financial aid outside the institution for a college student without a great academic profile, shoot me a DM.

I was working out this morning in my new home garage gym listening to that Springsteen and Obama podcast. At one point, they played a clip of Bruce singing an acoustic version of Thunder Road, I think from his Broadway show maybe. I teared up and had to take a quick break. I used to sing that to both of my now-teenage boys when they were babies and I was walking around trying to get them to sleep. It's the longest song I know the words to.

Damn, that was amazing. The River is the Springsteen song that gives me the feels. One night when I was home from college I came home a stoned and was listening to the words and just in tears at the kitchen table.

This whole Springsteen at Hammersmith concert was part of the boxed set rerelease of Born to Run (album). I think all the songs are available on Youtube individually, but you might need to pay to see it all stitched together. It's such a damn great show, and if I recall correctly, the backstory behind that tour is fantastic as well.

Can you imagine writing an eight song album and four of those songs being Thunder Road, Born to Run, Tenth Avenue Freeze Out, and Jungleland? Fucking staggering how great those tracks all are.

My first exposure to Bruce was the Born in the USA album. I was 7 years old in 1984, and that album was everywhere. To be honest, I think it rivals Born to Run. I mean, title track, Cover Me, I'm on Fire, Glory Days, Dancing in the Dark? It's a little shinier than Born to Run, and it's 10 songs not 8, but his 1:2 ratio of classics to not classics is still there. Anyway, I remember seeing that Hammersmith concert video when I got the Born to Run 25th anniversary box and having my mind blown by just how young he was then.Shirley wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 4:27 pmWas just listening to that album this morning (for obvious reasons). I haven't been to a TON of concerts compared to some of you, but I've been to multiple dozens. (Would be interesting to go back and count 'em up, now that I'm thinking... went to a lot more in high school and college than I initially realized.)govmentchedda wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 3:37 pm Can you imagine writing an eight song album and four of those songs being Thunder Road, Born to Run, Tenth Avenue Freeze Out, and Jungleland? Anyways, I've seen some good fucking shows. But nothing has been as good as the Springsteen shows. The only one that wasn't jaw dropping was the Tunnel of Love tour, and I actually liked a lot of those songs... They just weren't as great live as others.

My mom was a huge Springsteen fan and I've got some years on you. For me, Born in the USA got kind of overplayed, back in that era when that was a thing. And it's almost like the songs are more pop than rock, if that makes any sense. Like, Dancing in the Dark is a fun tune, and I love it now, but back when it was in heavy rotation on the radio, I just got tired of hearing it.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 4:45 pmMy first exposure to Bruce was the Born in the USA album.
