50 states, 50 spots: Natural wonders in the U.S.

I've been to a few of them:

Grand Canyon
Everglades National Park
Indiana Dunes State Park
Mammoth Cave National Park
Theodore Roosevelt National Park
Hocking Hills State Park
Crater Lake
Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Blue Ridge Mountains/Shenandoah National Park

Not bad. Of that list, Crater Lake is number one in my book.

Bombay Hook is about 15 minutes from my parents' house. I probably haven't been out to the refuge in 15 or 20 years.

Valley of Fire State Park is Nevada's entry - isn't that where we started the Vegas Ragnar a few years ago?

Kind of a bizarrely fascinating piece on a woman who won (and spent) millions of dollars on scratch off lottery tickets.

Will appeal especially to anyone who love statistics and probability as it related to gambling.

I read about another ghost city. Probably here. There are a bunch of them, including this one, which is a replica of Paris, complete with Eiffel Tower. I watched a couple minutes of the video. Fascinating stuff I'll have to get back to tonight. I think this is a perfect example of why China will never challenge as a superpower. Their inefficiency is astounding, and their best minds are often driven out by the repressive government. How much money and resources were wasted on these cities? How stupid to build a full city and expect people to move there. Decades of Communism left them with a lack of understanding of Capitalism's realities. I think Russia will falter because of the same issues. The younger generation gets it, but those who grew up under Communism have no work ethic or hope of improving their lot. Good workers were looked down upon for working hard, as everyone else would have to keep up with them. Even management scorned productive workers. Every had to produce equally.

They are currently building a "bigger, better" Manhattan scheduled to finish in 2019, and a replica of an entire quaint Austrian village. They are also planning to build the world's largest city. They think 42 million people are going to move there. You'd think they would have learned their lesson. I guess the building companies are being paid, so WTF do they care? At some point, I'd think the government is going to force people to live there.

I'm just going to quote the entire article because, well...
A woman is facing theft charges after authorities said she rode a horse to a store while intoxicated and tried to shoplift items from the store.

Christine Saunders, 45, of Fyffe [AL], was charged with public intoxication and possession of a prohibited beverage. DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said she will likely face more charges.

Harris said deputies and Fyffe police were called to a store at Hammonds Crossroads Saturday, where he said Saunders was being held with items she allegedly took from the store.

Harris said Saunders had a horse tied up outside the store, with three cans of Keystone Light beer tied to the saddle horn in a Walmart bag.

Harris said Saunders did not own the horse, which was returned to its owner. Harris said the owner declined to press charges.

If she killed him, the Silicon Valley big may not have been the Atlanta native’s first victim, authorities said. Santa Cruz police confirmed they are working with an agency in a different state on a similar case - one in which a victim was left in distress and died while Tichelman allegedly took off without calling for help.

A profile of Tom Emanski, including an explanation of how he managed to make those commercials so ubiquitous.
After some 50,000 airings — not even ESPN knows exactly how many — the final Baseball World commercial aired on January 2, 2007, during an episode of SportsCenter.

Don't really listen to McCown much - not that big a hockey or baseball fan, so there's not much point.

But he is so much better than the vast majority of radio honks out there as he refuses to indulge in hyperbole and never inflames bogus controversies.

He is a smart ass, but a very Canadian smart ass.

I don't understand why that is such a bad beat. They had even chances to win before the flop...he wasn't a huge favorite. He had just as much chance of getting his flush as the other guy getting his, no?

I wouldn't necessarily call it a bad beat, but that was pretty crazy.

If my math is right, there was about a .8% chance of that happening to any of the four suits. So yeah, in that view, it's a pretty bad beat.

I just thought a "bad beat" was when you had some ridiculous odds of winning and ended up losing on some stupid card on the river by the 1-2 cards that beat you. When you're dead even with pocket aces before the flop, it doesn't seem like a bad beat.

Yeah, typically "bad beat" implies the other person came from behind. In this case, it was going to be a split pot. Still, that dude went all in with > 99% chance of at least getting his money back, but lost it all. That's pretty tough.

Amazing photos. One of those boats, 20 missiles, each with as many as 10 independently-targeted warheads. Only one boat had to survive a first-strike, and then it lands 200 nukes on US soil. Amazing, that cold war era.
