Grocery stores here are the worst I’ve ever seen. Dairy section 3/4 bare shelves at multiple stores. Yogurt is down to artificial sweetened Greek yogurt only. Cream cheese section only had strawberry flavored non-dairy and something called “cream cheese-like spread, suitable for baking.”

Fresh meat section has been slim pickings about half the time around here. The other day there was no fresh chicken and just the leavings of beef. I mean, I'm not against an Oxtail, but it's not really a weeknight dinner ingredient for my family.

I've noticed some things might be not available on a given day, but I end up at the grocery store almost every other day* and if something was missing the last trip it's usually there next time.

*Pre-COVID I usually did one big shopping trip once a week, every so often supplementing that with a trip to the store in our neighborhood. In the thick of 2020 I started going once every 2 or 3 weeks and we just tried to make the best of what we had so I could cut down on the supplemental trips. At some point last year that changed to multiple smaller trips a week to the neighborhood grocery store on a shop to get what I need on any given day basis. I'm sure that's not the most cost-effective way to shop but I can't get back into the groove of going shopping on Sunday mornings like I used to.

I was more or less daily back in my peak-cooking (hour + of effort any night we didn't go out) and I loved it. Felt what I assume being parisian feels like.

I used to be jealous about that way of life, though I pictured Rome instead of Paris. Go to the outdoor market, but whatever seemed good fresh and make something out of it.

Early COVID, we relied on grocery delivery. Since my wife was working in the hospitals and was terrified of getting me sick, she didn't want me going to the store. And the stores here were a shit show, crowds of panicky people, lots of empty shelves. I had to wait until 1:00 am to place an online order 2 weeks out. By 1:05, they were booked, and you'd have to try again the next day. I forgot, I had two accounts and alternated each week which I ordered from, because you couldn't place two orders. I never successfully placed an order with Fresh Direct. There was always a substantial number of items missing. We continued with the weekly online shop for most items, but between items being unavailable online and the quality of the produce being spotty, we go to the store too many times a week to get a few items.

What the fuck is that I wasted three months training her ass and I get to start over. Im a very small shop. That stuff takes time and focus and money away. The children quip is because she missed a couple days last week because she got pregnant again and wasnt feeling her best after extending a COVID exposure absence beyond CDC guidelines because I was being cool and she was working from home, sort of. I just dont understand who takes a job in a law firm and doesnt expect to think. Hell who doesnt want to think. Thats the benefit of working here. I teach you a ton and you leave and make more money elsewhere. When you say you dont want to think, I look at you like a fucking cyclops.

Could be. But I pay above their previous wage or else they wouldnt join up. And I wouldnt react this way if someone left for another job... good for you and lets still make some money together in the future because people show up again. But I hire black people that are not typically in career type jobs and who wouldnt get a sniff from white law firms despite obvious intelligence. I let them cut teeth and spend too much time actually teaching them law (not paper pushing) and basic corporate etiquette. No you cannot put your head in your arms on the desk. No you cannot wear headphones. Yes you need a pad of paper. And a pen. Yes you actually need to read and understand. Yes you should keep track of your responsibilities and know what to prioritize or ask after youve tried to figure it out yourself. So when I spend time doing this stuff and they waste their talents because theyre "stressed" i have zero patience for that shit.

If anyone needs me I'll be over here nursing my eye since the IRS has fucked me right in it!

(Everything looks so so wrong. I mean, I guess I'm pretty sure I know the reason why - no bonus this year to put a dent in the overall tax paid. Still sucks and I'm totally going to blame the government!)

Thanks, Biden!

But seriously, we need to eliminate the SALT tax deduction cap. Pure Trumpian retribution to hurt people in states that didn't vote for him.

Searched FB to see what my fake ID's rightful owner(?) was up to. He's FB friends with a swamper! I only met him (ID's rightful owner) once, many months after my roommate handed me the ID because the photo looked way more like me than him.

Similarly, back in the day, my younger brother could pass for me. So I told the dmv I misplaced my license, they gave me a duplicate, and my brother used it for a fake ID.

I never had a fake ID. My girlfriend in college had her sister's, but was too scared to use it. When I finally convinced her, we went through a drive-thru place and they loaded up the box before carding her. She left it at the dorm, so she told them we'd be right back because she left her purse at her apartment (you had to live on campus two years, good thinking). I had to convince her to go back because she thought it was an omen, but when we got there, they just loaded the box in the trunk and took her money. Never carded her.

Yeah, I never had one either. We just went to Canada. When I was at UNM had a buddy that had one that was horrendous (like white-out over the DOB bad) but the shitty liquor store on Central didn't care and we always got our Mickey's big mouths!

I didn't have one until college, but in High School we used to go to this place in Espanola that sold to ANYONE. It was a Mobile Home in a vacant lot that had a drive-up window and a barber shop. Taking the drive to Johnny's was a Friday afternoon ritual.

When I was in high school, MD was 21 but DC still had the grandfathered 18... Pretty easy to find someone that age or to find a fake ID that looked like an 18 year old.

Only time I ever used one in college was down in Key West, though the bars weren't being all that strict and it was open container down there. That said, second spring break they started cracking down and my buddy got nabbed on the street. Night in jail and cleaning up the highway the next morning and he was out.

I thought the swamper that knows my ID guy was Syb, but that's not correct. Who of us lives/has lived in ATL, went to Duke, and has the same last name as the diva who has the biggest newish (last 20 yrs) XMAS hit.

My wife, daughter and I send our results to each other to see who gets to brag at dinner time.

But my God - I do not give a shit that my high school girlfriend or that guy on my friend's trivia team solved it in 4.
