The Oakland Athletics gave Miguel Cabrera (recovering alcoholic) a (relatively) cheap bottle of wine for his retirement gift.

2019 Champ, LGBT ally, voracious fantasy and sci-fi reader, 856-raised, and all-around good dude Sean Doolittle called it a career today.

They're not the first team to gift him with alcohol on his retirement tour.

Did a team get him a bottle of Bulleit Whiskey or something? Gifting a recovering alcoholic a bottle is really embarrassing, but so is a billion dollar organization about 40 miles from NAPA Valley 'gifting' a $90 bottle of wine to a surefire, first ballot hall of famer.

This may shock you to hear, but the Oakland Athletics are known as a very cheap organization.

I’m not saying they aren’t cheap, but this feels even more like forgetting to buy a gift and just finding something.

Cheap and crass is no way to go through life, son.

Oh and this just in: the O's bullpen is a freakin dumpster fire, and they're currently playing (the position players) some of the worst baseball of their season the past few days. Just awful.

Thank heavens the Rays had a player break a knee, be banished for pedophilia and uh...sign a new 30 year lease to play in another fucking dome on the wrong side of the Bay?

Most of the gifts he got were very heartfelt and rarely expensive. The Yankees for example gave him a signed framed NYC subway sign for the Yankee Stadium/Bronx stop. So yeah someone in the As organization apparently realized like 5 hrs before the Tigers got to town that other teams were giving gifts. Very on point for them. Though an equivalent gift would have been some rats on a glue trap from the Coliseum locker room I guess.

Apparently, they didn't realize they had a couple more days to pick something out.

I feel like I’ve been driving a sweet ride since April and it is now starting to break down and run out of gas before I can get to a place to make it all better. The arms are tired. All of them.

They’re all tired. Overworked, and frankly, that’s on the F.O. for not bringing on more arms at TDL. My jaw hit the floor when I heard that Cano has only one strikeout this month. They need their starters to go 6-7 every game and then it’s a roll of the dice.

I don't expect the reds to even finish above .500 at this point.

I wish you could bet on something like “Miguel Cabrera will get a grooved pitch on his final AB”.

(Whether he could still turn on one is another story.)

He could. I actually saw him pull a (not-too-)fastball for a home run earlier this year.

What's wrong with Tampa? I mean they qualified for the post season more than a week ago, and while the O's magic number is 1, Tampa is not out of it....

He could. I actually saw him pull a (not-too-)fastball for a home run earlier this year.
And since he hit one out last night (game suspended in the 5th inning last night), if he gets one in his final at-bat, he'll finish with five on the season. More importantly, he'll jump from a tie with Mel Ott (25th at 511) to one with Ernie Banks and Eddie Mathews.

Potential good times at Camden tonight - clinch division and best record in AL with a win and don't need to scoreboard watch.

The M's have gone 1-5 the last 6 games against the the teams they are fighting against for a playoff spot.

And of course, I get the email this morning about how to "Secure Your Playoff Tickets!"

Orioles win the AL East - amazing

Orioles sign a 30-year lease for Camden Yards - amazing

Orioles donate $60,000 to the org I work for in honor of Jim Palmer’s 60 years w the team. Palmer requested it go to us. The things we can do with 60 grand… AMAZING

I would have been there, but I’m at the ocean for another event we are holding down here this weekend. Otherwise I would be in the Brushes thread.
