Read that this morning....and checked out after he compared Gaetz to AOC.

AOC may not be your cup of tea, but she didn't support overthrowing the government.

Let me guess, its a "these two are polar to their parties" nonsense. Its like comparing the best QB to the worst QB just because everyone else is closer to the center.

Plus AOC isn't polar to her party. She's obviously more liberal and outspoken about it, but last year when Biden was pushing to get a few things through Congress, it was the moderates of the party who were giving him trouble. Not the Squad.

What McCarthy has offered his opponents and what is under discussion

I think some of this is a bit worrisome. Focus on “border security”? Committee to investigate “weaponization of federal government”? Holman rule?

They're going to investigate weaponization of the federal government, and also subpoena everyone who knows Hunter Biden.

They will do nothing to help the American people, and their base will eat it up. I just hope moderates and independents will see through their bullshit, but I don't have much hope. The media will either both sides it and legitimize the BS and make it seem the same as the Trump impeachments and 1/6 committee, or they will tepidly question the efforts and the RW media will jump all over the the Liberal MSM for hiding the REAL investigations. I fucking hate our politics so much.

Speaking of weaponizing the government, the RW false narrative about Biden weaponizing the IRS is disgusting and infuriating. Trump decimated the IRS to protect himself and other rich tax cheats like him. The numbers of the "new" IRS agents hired by Biden includes existing agents and doesn't factor in that most new hires are replacing those positions eliminated by Trump. They also make a huge deal that ALL the new agents will carry firearms, we'll have an army of 80,000 armed IRS agents and their target is YOU!?!?!?! Right now, the IRS doesn't even attempt to investigate the worst tax cheats, because the investigations will be complicated and they are way undermanned, so they are only going after small-time cheats who can't afford to pay for a major defense. The GOP want to keep it this way, as wealthy tax fraudsters tend to vote and donate Republican. I've heard poor to lower middle class people freak out that the IRS is going to come after them now. The percentage of people audited overwhelming skews towards the middle class, and the new hires were aimed at going after the super-wealthy.

Where is the part where the House Freedom Caucus members get to kick him square in the nuts every time they pass him in the hallways?

What's the point of being the "Speaker" when you've signed away the powers that are supposed to come with it? You get to put that on your business card and bang the gavel on occasion?

From the Post...
Colorado Republican Lauren Boebert voted “present” in the 14th round. Her move would help lower the vote threshold California Republican Kevin McCarthy needs to become speaker.

The longtime holdout received a standing ovation from her colleagues.

I thought present didn't change votes needed. Just meant you were there but the majority required would still be the same.

All the Republicans are changing their votes to adjourn to nays, so I guess they must have a deal in place to let McCarthy finally take it in the 15th. And now they're chanting "one more time" as I write this.

Hakeem Jeffries going full filibuster to get the GOP mad before he hands it over to Kevin.

Kinda funny.

And he has this long part about everything we are as America:

And I'm like, "He's just talking about Santos, isn't he?"

Edit:

You guys need to give ppl around here a little more credit. The short answer, because the linked article burns about 1100 words on it, is that it's about the fact that the GOP is now almost entirely driven by ideology and the House mess is showing the limitations of that organizing/driving principle. The Dems are driven by common interests (and associated groups) and have proven that under an almost identically challenging "majority" they were able to pass a bunch of important and controversial bills the last 2 years.

Pretty much sums this boards take that the GOP don't really care about governing anymore. How much longer their constituents put up with that is kind of up to how long Fox puts up with associating and pumping up Trumpists. Especially given that the Trumpists have decided that Big Business is becoming "too liberal" and are somehow their enemies... That's definitely not going to go over well with the Murdochs.
