I don't know about you guys, but I'm excited to hear new ESPN analyst Ray Lewis discuss this issue!

Awesome!

But in reality, they will either a) keep Lewis away from this issue or b) Lewis will include the words "faith," "prayer" and "jesus" in his no doubt hard-hitting analysis.

Go get your free Tebow Jersey!!
The New England Patriots ProShop will offer a free jersey exchange of any #81 Hernandez jersey purchased at the Patriots ProShop or online at PatriotsProShop.com for a new Patriots jersey of comparable value. The free jersey exchange will be available exclusively at the Patriots ProShop the weekend of Saturday, July 6 and Sunday, July 7.

“We know that children love wearing their Patriots jerseys, but may not understand why parents don’t want them wearing their Hernandez jerseys anymore,” said New England Patriots spokesperson Stacey James. “We hope this opportunity to exchange those jerseys at the Patriots ProShop for another player’s jersey will be well received by parents.”

This opportunity for a free exchange of jerseys is limited to the weekend of July 6-7 and is available only at the Patriots ProShop located at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. The hours of operation are from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6 and from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7. The exchange is for jerseys available in the Patriots ProShop only and is limited to one per person

I think they just want to get the Hernandez jerseys off the streets. Hilarious.

So all this stuff coming out now about what a horrible person he is, was any of this known before? I never heard a bad thing about him, but he was suspended in college and I just don't follow college football. The guy clearly has anger and behavioral issues, but was this a well kept secret, or am I just oblivious?

As Charles Pierce wrote days ago:
Of course, we will have endless bloviating about what in Hernandez's "background" may have warned off the poor, misguided Patriots, had they only known, which I guarantee you they did. But, seriously, how are you supposed to "vet" a player so as to know whether he might get involved in killing a guy? Because he smoked some weed in college? Please, do not be stupid. Because of the "influences" around him while he was growing up? Please, do not go there at all.
But then he says it's the prevalence of guns. And he loses me.

Though JOhn as I said to BSF earlier, its a difference between being raised around guns as a tool for hunting, etc. and growing up in the gun culture to "solve one's problems." Supposedly Lloyd was a target because he spoke some people at a club that Hernandez had a problem during previous trips to the club. If you are using guns to solve "problems" with people there is a problem.

I can certainly get behind the notion that the dude wasn't raised with the correct respects for firearms. This picture tells me everything I need to know about how Aaron Hernandez and firearms interact. It's an iPhone selfshot taken when he was 19 at UF. (Which makes me ask "Who bought him that watch?") Also, apologies for the TMZ all over it, but they posted the photo.

Image

But if you want to tell me that too many guns are at least partially to blame for this, please stop. Just because a lot of something that can kill you exists, doesn't mean it's the impetus for what makes you want to kill. The aforementioned attitude towards it all will certainly do that.

If that is a .45 in the photo, irony alert. (Lloyd was shot repeatedly by .45 slugs)

Yup. From 2 days ago:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100000 ... urder-case" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Prosecution mentioned a Hernandez photo that has circulated on the Internet during the past 24 hours.

"There was a photo that was shown on the Internet of the defendant holding a Glock .45. That Glock -- there's good reason to believe the firearm that killed Mr. Lloyd was a Glock because the Glock has a rifling system that is different than most firearms," McCauley said.

I think solely blaming the parents for not raising him with the correct respect for firearms would be just a 180 from the blaming the guns argument. If you dismiss the notion that guns are at least partially to blame, you can't shift it all onto his parents/family system.

I would have no problems with a law stating that if you plan on photographing yourself holding your gun, you're banned from owning a gun.

That pic tells me all I need to know about him..."Avoid at all Costs"

Yes, I am also mistaken for NFL tight ends because of my rather grand physique. I am just less murdery

I kind of forgot about the whole arrest thing on the day he was transported to prison. It took forever to get from one end of the town to the other with all the media.

It's funny, because the quote is actually attributed to this conch shell not Aaron Hernandez:

He drank in a bar as an underage freshman? Clearly he is a bad seed! Or is it the refusing to pay and suckerpunching the bouncer in the ear? What a dick.

There is no stretching required to make it hilarious that like, the day after Mike Brown said "oh yeah we knew he was a bad seed we wouldn't have touched him in any round, homeys don't play that" the news was "well, Mike, your safety was riding with him during one drive-by".

I'll lol.

Dion Lewis of the Browns, and the folks from Bristol are pissed that Carlos Ortiz apparently informed on Aaron Hernandez.

I don't understand people who think there is honor in not snitching on a murderer.

I'll say that there is no honor in snitching when you helped to kill the guy and all you want is 10 instead of 30. Vastly different scenario when you are a bystander vs a co-conspirator.

Anyone catch the ESPN multi-gasm between the Belichick presser, the Meyer presser, and Hernandez's court appearance?

Belichick made me chuckle. Never said his name once and kept reiterating to everyone in the press that he couldn't speak about "people in ongoing judicial cases" or something to the effect. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that Belichick went to the same "conduct after capture" course I did prior to my Iraq deployment. The non-answer answers he gives are excellent.

ETA

Wait, did he say his name exactly once? I think ESPN cut in a minute or so late.
