Same here. That was the most fun EPL match I've watched in some time. And Tyler Adams had an absolute monster of a game. He was everywhere.tennbengal wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 9:55 am absolute scenes in the aftermath of that. On board. 100% a Leeds fan for this year. All in.

Re: EPL 2022/2023
Thrilled for my high school buddy who religiously watched Leeds since college. He spent a semester abroad in England and became a Leeds fan. Early 2000s he joined some supporters group through the team that live streamed all their games, even when they were playing League One. His wife even had a cardboard cutout of him made and put in the stadium during the COVID no fans era. I sort of paid attention to Leeds because of him, and they were fun to watch since they came back to Prem, and when they signed Adams and Aaronson, I knew I'd be watching them. They play with so much energy and speed, it's impossible not to love them. Haven't had a second team since the Fulhamerica days, and this is going to be a fun year.

Re: EPL 2022/2023
That's the Adams we've been waiting for this early part of the season. He's been a little tentative going in on tackles and his passing was not decisive... falling into quickly knocking it back or short without much thought (IMO).
Today was beast mode. Getting truly stuck in against the most talented team he's seen, and being the constant positive engine moving the ball forward out of the back.
As mentioned, Aaronsen's goal is peak him. And it will just make the fans, his coaches and his players love him all the more. When a pressing team scores a goal like that, it builds a belief and momentum that is unparalleled.

Lol, NUFC holds Man City to a draw.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I’m a Chelsea fan and I have to admit that Leeds is fun. Certainly helps that Aaronson and Adams were so good today.

I'm not going to get all worked up about this, but when your (Tuchel) team loses 3:0, going on a "we were the better team" and putting Aaronson's goal as an "own goal" and calling Rodrigo's nearpost header a soft/bad goal...
STFU dude. Yes, Mendy's was a howler of a play, but you gotta give credit to the pressing player there. And if you have been watching ANY tape on Leeds, you know they have been whipping in nearpost balls on set pieces all season. It's, like... their thing. So the fact that you didn't have that properly covered is crap, yes, but that's never an easy goal to convert.
Give credit where it's due and move on. I get posturing and sending a message to your lockerroom, but it's pretty disrespectful when you get run off the field (score-wise), just take the L and move on.

In 1997, Keith Hackett used the modern interpretation of the rules to give out six red cards. In 2020, Michael Oliver gave out 11 – with McCreadie being sent off twice. Chelsea attracted another five red cards, with Leeds being given four.

This is a fun read, for those Athletic subs...
Synopsis is that Sunday allows the fans to start to really move on from Bielsa, and to accept that Marsch knows what he's doing and the players believe in the system.
As for any team/system, it's fine and well until they get punched in the mouth. But you've gotta get past the past to really put things to a test. Sunday was massive for this.

That guy's fall from grace is probably going to make a great book.
From superstar of the future in both the EPL and on England to not good enough to even come off the bench for Everton. Transfermarkt had him valued at over 100 million in 2019. His current valuation of 17 million seems a bit high. He hasn't had a good game in over two years.

I was fascinated watching him on All or Nothing Tottenham. I commented on it when I watched, but it just seemed like he has a mental disconnect when talking to coaches, especially the scenes where Mourinho called him into his office. I don't know if he is on the spectrum and doesn't make eye contact, or if he just didn't care and didn't want to listen when coaches gave him instruction. He just had a smirk and seemed like he wasn't listening. I'm sure Mourinho loved that.Pruitt3 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 3:48 pmThat guy's fall from grace is probably going to make a great book.

I get the feeling that being a superstar at 19 was something he couldn't handle properly. The kid's made enough cash to live well for the rest of his life, so more power to him.The Sybian wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 6:14 pmI was fascinated watching him on All or Nothing Tottenham. But once Christian Eriksen stopped trying at Spurs, Alli really became an average player. I think that playing with Eriksen (again, the Eriksen that gave a shit) and Kane and Moussa Dembele was a godsend for Alli. Once he was asked to do some heavy lifting it became pretty obvious (to 3 managers in a row) that he just couldn't (or wouldn't) do it.

My co-coach buddy and I used to call that being a track striker, and it was very rarely a successful move (putting your arm out and starting a sprint straight at goal like that). It's usually employed quite a bit at the youth level where athletes just outrun lesser gifted defenders.
To see it at that level, and then to see it actually work?
That guy is bananas.

Re: EPL 2022/2023
As we saw today, it can be successful, even if less obvious (arm out) when the ball is coming in from the wing like that.
What I HATED and really coached against, was the notion that you are going to connect on that type of play when the ball is coming from the center middie. It's almost impossible to connect on that pass and almost always winds up going straight to the goalie or central defender. It's a lazy (mental) play.
Drives me nuts when I see it at the pro level. I'm trying to think of an equivalent in American football and I'm not finding it. Maybe running a fly pattern against a deep safety and cover 2? I dunno. Just a very low percentage play.

I was really looking forward to watching Tim Ream play a game where I was rooting against him, but he never made his trademark colossal blunder! I kept waiting for it to happen. He made a great play early in the game throwing his body into a tackle preventing a Jesus goal. Robinson played a terrific game shutting down Saka and Martinelli. Robinson has incredibly quick feet and could deal with their changes of direction. Very impressed and loved that the announcers didn’t once call him Jedi.
