Yeah, me too. Not sure I want to see it since attacking CM is our weakest position. And what is RPM and BWM?

A shaky start, but FC Swamp wins their first Championship match of the season. Pentagonz gets space to fire in a cross, turd's shot is blocked and the Sybian opens his (and FC Swamp's) account. The central defensive pairing of Bengal and Cerrano were superb.

Somehow I missed yours. And you showed me, scoring the only goal from the AMC spot. RPM is a Roving Playmaker and BWM is a ball winning midfielder.

A little data from the match. Turd didn't have a good game, and our defensive midfielders were a bit suspect. After 3 games, it unlocks some more analytics, so I am looking forward to digging into that because that's something that hasn't been a part of any FM game I have played before. Anyway, solid win. Got a call at 1030 but may try to get another game at lunch.

Player Preview Ahead of the 2nd match against Big Sam and Hull: Man of the Matchday 1 CERRANO!

Cerrano is a young no-nonsense center back. High on bravery and positioning, he was crucial in the first match to short circuit multiple attacks. According to the media, he could be the next Tony Adams, who made over 500 appearances for Arsenal and 66 caps for England. Cerrano has low stamina and low natural fitness, so it will be good to use in a rotation with SanCarlos next to Bengal at the back. Ceranno doesn't play through balls but loves to get the crowd fired up. He tries long passes, but since he's young this isn't the strongest part of his game. It will get better.

Cerrano won 20/21 headers in the first match, just continuously in the right place to clear danger. his heading rating of 15 and jumping of 14 make him a real Walker Zimmerman.

Two changes to the startling lineup, with WulAxl and Giff making the start in place of PDX and Tom1860 respectively. Sybian gets a chance to stake a claim on the AMC position after scoring in the opener. Twitter is excited for rass!

(BTW call got pushed to this afternoon and I'm waiting on a file from a lawyer. Don't hire me.)

Going to do this a bit differently to try to create some suspense. After an early soft goal in the 7th minute, FC Swamp settles down. Bengal gets a ball at the back and plays it long to TheSybian. Syb gets loose and fires it to the center of the box where Turd haeads it home to square the match at 1 in the 17th minute.

Turd keeps the pressure up and scores again six minutes later. BUT VAR CALLS IT BACK! Turd is aggrieved to not get the brace, but he was offsides by just a hair. Which is not surprising considering he has a mohawk for some reason. Strikers, amirite?

Anyway, in the 27th, Sabo makes a great interception and flicks it on to Rass on the left. Rass spots Turd making his way to the box and fires a long ball in and Turd gets a toe in for his second to wash away any issues with his performance in the first match.

After a boring half hour during which Hull has a goal disallowed, they get the equalizer in the 59th. FC Swamp brings on Carwash, Chedda and Pruitt to spell some tired legs. Neither team creates many chances until the 90th. Cerrano takes a throw and plays a long ball to a racing Chedda, who can't quite get to it as the keeper elects to clear instead of handle.

Well, let's just see what happens.

RASS puts his stamp on a storming game, burying the ball from 30 yards out after the keeper was off his line. FC SWAMP wins it late!

The in-game view on FM has really come a long way since it was a bunch of circles moving around a 2D field. From a distance that's almost indistinguishable from a real game.

yeah. i'm still refining my video taking to get a bit better quality but early season lumps I guess. The basics of the game are familiar, but because I'm not using the full version of the game I'm not bale to do some things I wanted to. Hoping to figure out a couple of things to work new people in as we go along.

So just circling back to this. I gotta be honest. I have no idea what that means and would be willing to look at different ways to deal with that. Fill me in a bit on what that means for tactics if you can.

22 Year old english keeper who doesn't have the #1 shirt because he's younger than BFJ I suppose. But NLFC is our starter. Somewhat susceptible to injury, he should feature in most matches, only changing out due to fixture congestion or cup competitions (though because we are not a leading PL team, those competitions mean more to us than teams that have their second stringer in all cups - NLFC will play in cups from time to time). Nonlinear has great command of the area, handles well and generally is very well rounded. He is composed and makes good decisions. Aside from questioning our overall tactics in the defensive end, he is level-headed.

So, low-block is what we mean when we say a team is parking the bus, or playing a bunker. If you want a really fucking annoying example from incredibly recent history, recall the last 15-20 minutes of yesterday's win over Iran.

Typically a team playing a low-block is running out a 5-4-1 or 4-4-2 formation. On D, you set up your back line about 25 or 30 yards from goal and you keep your lines very compact and difficult to break down through the middle, making sure you keep your numbers even up when they try attacking the flanks. The offense comes almost exclusively on counters and set pieces.

A mid-block is basically just pushing your team up higher, but remaining pretty compact and typically starts to see more stacking in the midfield... So, like 4-3-1-2 and any other number of variations in the middle and up top. D sets up more around the 35 or 40 and the offense still comes from turnovers, but also being higher up the field gets into combos that aren't exclusively built around counters. This is the way the US played the first half of all three games (mostly).

A high-block, or high press, is exactly what it sounds like. Your D pushes up to midfield when, say, their keeper is starting the play. Your forwards and flankers (Weah and Pulisic) are going to be running around trying to force the ball into the middle where guys like McKinnie - Adams - Musah are waiting for that, pounce, and you go directly to goal. This is the way Leeds plays. It's up tempo and can be a lot of fun... It can also lead to instances where the press gets worked out by the opposition and now they've got numbers because you've committed lots of guys up field. It's just like basketball in that sense. Break the press and you get an easy look... It's the main reason Leeds gives up a shit-ton of goals.

So, it really depends on your talent pool. Not a lot of teams are built to high press. Teams that are feeling outgunned typically play some variation of a low- to mid-block just to keep the opposition bottled up.

For those that aren't familiar with the game interface, when you start a match, it fast sims through things where there isn't much chance of a goal. Then when either team gets a good possession it will show the videos like I have posted above. So there can be 10-15 minutes of game time with just the time running with some commentary at the bottom.

This was a very boring first half until late. Bengal picks up the ball in his own half and moves it to Carwash, who sends a long pass which HaulCitgo, filling in for Turd, handles with a deft first touch before beating the keeper:

The second half I ended up watching most of it as there was a lot of end to end action (which tired out our guys and made me use all 5 subs) but no goals. The swamp continues its Route One methods with PDX taking the ball from Tom1860 and flinging a pass up the pitch.

HaulCitgo solidifies a stunning debut with his second, and FC Swamp have all nine points from 3 games. Top the the table, having a laugh!

Eventaully I will include some other goals and highlights but focusing on goals at the moment as I refine things.

Oops. I didn't give an injury update. Elflaco has been out four a week with a thigh strain, and will be out another 1-3 weeks. Brian had a thigh strain as well but is now fit and getting some PT for the reserves to get match fit. I need to get a weekly routine together for that stuff.

Carabao Cup Round 1 Player Profile: TURD!

Determined Striker Turd is a prolific finisher, rating a 16/20. Combined with excellent pace and positioning, he's capable of getting to the right place at the right time, as evidenced by his two goal game already this season. He's our first choice penalty taker and his technique and work rate off of the charts, making him a strong candidate for even more improvement. Pundits think Turd can develop into a quality Premier League Striker, though no comparisons have been made yet. Only weakness is that he's a true one position player, but when that position is striker it's a good one to focus on. Again, he has a mohawk which is hard to see, but in the videos it shows up as a Chuck Liddel MMA style wide cut.

We'll go back to a similar starting XI, but with Rass slotting in in Pentaonz's spot to let Bobby clear his head and come on as a fresh-legged sub if needed.

Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

There's no other way to describe this one. It was an ass-kicking. Things started off in the 2nd minute. PDX gathers the ball, moves it to misterD who finds TheSybian moving in on goal. A through ball later and Turd scores a great team goal.

In the 13th, Cerrano dominates in the air, nodding to TheSybian, who seems to have taken questioning the AM spot personally, finds a barely onside Turd, who dribbles around the keeper and tucks it away.

Then in the 25th, Sabo takes a free kick from the circle and puts it into the box, where's it's cleared to MisterD, who crosses it back in to meet the head of towering captain Bengal, who scores his first goal of the season!

In the 44th, TheSybian cements his spot after Giff plays him through on goal. Syb slides it by and is absolutely bossing the midfield today.

Sabo pours salt in the wound in the 68th minute after great work by most of the midfield. Syb takes the ball, feeds it to rass who searches out WluAxl, who then plays a ball to Sabo, who absolutely Steven Gerrards the fucker into the back of the net. 5-0 ballgame. On to the second round!

Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Syb gets the rare 10/10 as the MOTM. But the entire team was pretty impressive.

Player Preview: PDX

PDX is a creative Defensive midflielder, such as it is. A true artist with high creativity and vision. A consistent performer who can run all day and is able to wriggle into tight spaces to win the ball. Likes to dictate tempo and run with the ball looking for one-twos to break down the defense, but also tracks back well and is a capable marker. One of our better free kick/corner men, but overall we don't have a lot of real quality at set pieces.

Next match is against Huddersflied at home and we've been installed as slight favorites.

A few changes because I was advised by the physio that the workloads for a few players (Bengal & Cerrano notably) were high and could lead to injury. Somewhat of a gambit, but for rotation purposes I've slotted in two natural wingbacks in so we may be more adventurous going forward as the entire defensive line is changed. Rass gets the armband.

Syb must've trained with his daughter this week.
Until everything is less insane, I'm mixing weed with wine.
