Sports Journalist Told To Write Some Slop About Baseball Healing BostonImage
“Just shit out like six or seven hundred words’ worth of melodramatic sludge about how the whole city has been galvanized by their team and how baseball offers a way for Bostonians to slowly move on from tragedy,” said Poyet, adding that Martinez should definitely churn out a couple paragraphs of muck contrasting the overwhelming terror pervading Boston during the aftermath of the bombings to the especially emotional and impassioned atmosphere at Fenway Park this season. “Don’t forget to mention the ‘Boston Strong’ rallying cry, the club’s tributes to victims during each game, and how this is all about much more than just baseball.

I still hate John Lackey. I'm feeling a flashback to his first World Series start, game 4 2002.

At some point, Wacha's glass slipper has to turn into a pumpkin, no? Or something like that.

ETA: And as much as I hate hate hate to agree with McCarver, he's spot on about guys up there wearing body armour and "just happening" to get hit by a fuckton of pitches. That has to be addressed.

that creaking sound you hear is mr. d's head straining to keep his brain from exploding due to the possibility that shane victorino might have just driven in the runs that clinched the world series for the boston red sox.

One other thing about HBPs, and it's something I posted in one of the hockey threads here, that you know a hockey player faked being injured by a headshot, took a dive, flopped, when none of his team-mates say a damn thing to the other team, there's no retaliation, no gloves dropped, nothing. Same sort of thing happens in baseball; a guy gets drilled by a 95-mph fastball, stands there, peels off the batting gloves, hands the bat and helmet to the bat boy, trots down to first to share a laugh with the Wal*Mart greeter that is the first base coach and the trainer who saunters out because he has nothing else to do and is sort of obliged to get out there and look like he's doing something. There is no mouthing off at the pitcher. No fuckyoubitch! No threats, no charging the mound, nothing even muttered to the catcher who happens to be right there, not even a blink really. That'll tell you how intentional the HBP is on the batter's part. Every time.

Yes, it's only the 4th inning but this isn't a game anymore, it's a coronation. And, strikingly so, it's looking a lot like this:

We're just a Joaquin Andujar on-field meltdown away . . .

It was a fun season. I guess I'll give this NBA thing a try this go-round.

don't go anywhere yet. one swing of the bat = one run game.

nba update: sixers down heat, sun rises in the west, howard says the economy is in tip-top shape.

eta: nothing to see here, keep movin.

I blame the head for this. He basically went up there looking like a knight sans the helmet (would have taken to much plate metal.)

Do the black guys on the Red Sox not grow their beards long because they might look like Al Quaeda and it would put a damper on the Boston Strong shit?

Congrats Sox fans!

I was okay with losing the series, but damn did I want it to go 7. You can't top a game seven.
