People need to hang onto something to knock Mayor Pete down a peg or two. But all the candidates have "blood" on their hands if we all dig deep enough. This just happened to occur while he was on the campaign trail. And people/pundits knocked him for leaving the campaign and others knocked him for civilian killing cops.

Swalwell becomes the first to drop out.

PASS THE TORCH TO THE NEXT ONE TO DROP OUT.

2nd night debater. Greasy looking blonde dude from California who tried to go at Biden with a pathetically rehearsed catch phrase soliloquy. His only issue is gun control. He never had a real chance, yet decided to try anyway. Extremely forgettable.

I didn't watch the debates, and haven't followed Swalwell as a candidate, but he has been one of, if not the best Congressmen going on TV and going after Trump. I was surprised how everyone turned on the guy when he announced, and I prefer to keep Dems in Congress so I'm cool with him dropping out, but the guy is fucking money going on TV and making the case for Trump's actions being criminal.

He thought that by going on Fox News more than other Democrats and saying what he said made him presidential. He drank his own Kool Aid a little too hard.

Sure, he might have been a good anti-Trump voice, but that didn't translate into party leadership.

I only know him because I'm a turbo nerd, and he appeared on Pod Save America. At this point, I think they've had everyone on except for Biden and Bernie. I know they've had buys on like Castro and Moulton and Yang. Live shows and in studio. Klobuchar was tipsy and very fiesty at her live show. Harris was in studio and very powerful. Not remembering Booker, but that can't be right... I think he was at a live show.

Anyways, Swalwell was one of those guys that really didn't have a great reason for being in the race. I think you'll see most of these folks stay in until the next debate... I don't think it's feasible to keep going hoping for Iowa and the Carter effect if you're still less than 1 percent by the end of the summer.

This week's "This American Life" was centered on the candidates who are at 1% or less (or were when they recorded). Castro (particularly his debate prep) and Yang (the family to whom he is giving his "Freedom Dividend" out of his pocket for a year - a mother and son - she has cancer, father is deceased) were featured.

Really enjoyed that episode.

When the Yang campaign was scrambling to find an ATM or an open Walgreen's, I was picturing the crew from "Veep."

I like it. Though I do share DSafe's reservations, it's a good plan.

I skimmed through it, so I may have missed it: seriously, when marijuana becomes federally legal, minorities should get first crack and an overall majority of the business licenses associated with the change.

Also, has no one trademarked "Hindsight 2020" for the purposes of election yet? I'm trying to search the database, but it's not exactly user friendly.

I understand that. He seems to have been very open about what is happening with that though. I appreciate anyone, especially in the political climate, that can say the words "I got it wrong. I'm going to work to improve so that I don't make this mistake again.". We've elevated enough politicians to G-d Status in this country and when you couple it with reactionary culture, we're quick to tear down anyone in the face of a poor decision. We're so quick to attack others and defend ourselves when things go sideways now because it's not just your office finding out you kissed Mindy at the party, now it's on Instagram and Twitter and Facebook and on and on.

Everyone has flaws, but I appreciate his insight and thoughfulness when he's posed tough questions. There's no right answer to "someone killed an unarmed man in your city". He didn't do it. He didn't hire the guy that did. That dipshit from California during the debate sealed my opinion of him when he fired off at Pete for that. He says "why didn't you fire the chief?", Pete comes back and cites Indiana law during an ongoing investigation and Captain Bleached Hair says "doesn't matter you should have fired him." What the hell does that solve? Haven't we learned by now that kneejerk reactions to appease a bloodthirsty public don't fucking work? Pretty sure we fought 2 wars with that strategy.

Anyway, that's rambly. Lots of good options. I like several of them, but Harvard Grad/Rhodes Scholar/Military Intel Vet seems to be a pretty solid base to stand on.

Just found out I got tickets to a Joe Biden forum in downtown LV on Saturday with free pours by local draft breweries. (I had gotten tickets to the same event/sponsor for Elizabeth Warren a couple or three months ago, but had to cancel unfortunately).

I don't expect to be swayed, but it's not every day you get to be in an audience of 200 people with a former vice president and I'll hear him out.

Also I promise I won't be stumbling drunk.

I still tell the story about how for the first time in my life I literally felt the hangover leave my body on the patio at Banger after a couple hits off that pen. It was almost a religious experience.

Not that Taibbi is any worse than any other outlet, but the whole "politics as sport" reporting nonsense is pretty much how we got into this mess in the first place.
