I REALLY don't understand not suspending Wilson. They fucking threw the book at him (rightfully) for that shitty play in preseason a couple of years back. It's (obviously) not like they're unaware of his past. ???

That shit was straight out of Youngblood, with the helmet off and body slamming him down.

I'm truly baffled. Like... They've already clinched a spot, so the politics of it don't even make sense on that front. He got suspended earlier for a (shitty) but less egregious hit.

Fucking bizarre.

Neither incident should take place, and I by no means excuse the actions, but it's such a fucking bad look for the wheel of justice.
Wasn't even a GWG. It was an empty-netter to go up by 3.

I think this is actually it. If they acknowledge the intent/risk, they can't not suspend him well into the playoffs, so the only other option is to refuse to acknowledge that what happened was out of the ordinary. Its either "just another post-whistle scrum" or an incredibly serious offense committed by the first (or second, depending on how you feel about Gudas) guy you'd expect to do it with 20 games as the starting point.

It's not only pretty cynical to think the NHL gave him zero games, because suspending him for six games would have looked even worse, it's almost certainly correct.

I was positive he'd get regular season + 1, whatever that would have been. Then they could have said "hey, we take this so seriously we took away a playoff game" and the media sycophants would congratulate them while everyone else seethed. I did not, at all, expect zero games.

BTW, the Caps are a mess right now.

Rumors are getting pretty heated that they're gonna dump Kuznetsov. He got another Covid hit AND he and Samsonov showed up late to a team function the other day.

There's increasing drama and angst about the fact that Ovi isn't signed.

Wilson is out here Wilson'ing. I have no idea how things are going to go down tonight, but you know it just ramps up the tension... and not the good kind.

Just not good vibes, at least from the outside looking in.

The NHL just tries to manage everything too much. They manage the situations in games, and they manage at what point in the season we are right now. Why is a playoff game more important than a regular season game. You should be suspended 20 games, whatever those games are.

They manage the loser point system, they put in a shootout but don't want it to happen too often, they want the game to be rough but not too rough, they want a draft lottery but you can't win it too often etc...

By not suspending Wilson they are basically saying it was self-defense.

In soccer, you can be suspended for the World Cup Final for two shit yellow cards. A foul is a foul, a card is a card.

There's like 10 different speculations out there right now; Dolan issues with Davidson and Gorton dissenting, the league stepped in over the statement, Dolan wanted a goon kid from the AHL up and the front office resisted, "actually, this had nothing to do with the Wilson incident" ...

Who the fuck knows. Only thing I'm certain of is whatever odds you would have bet on the Rangers winning a Cup in the next five years, you can chop in half if Dolan has decided he's involved again.

Getting crowded in the penalty box. Wilson beat up Smith despite Smith instigating and getting a few in early. That is okay, Smith's equipment and face did a good job cutting Wilson's hand.

Wlu, from the Rangers’ perspective, it’s not about who wins the fights. It’s about venting their rage over recent events.

Oh completely...but if you are going to drop the gloves you always want to give better than you get. Rangers have generally done it the right way...except for trying to start something with T.J. Oshie. He missed the last game after his dad died...he should get the pass from having to fight tonight.

Wilson gets 10 for jawing at the bench after get slashed over and over again on the last shift....

Outside of guys fighting, this game will end with short benches from guys getting hit by pucks and falling on each other.

There is no "right way" to respond to a league and team that allows this shit to happen repeatedly. Anything goes. That's the consequence.

Wilson is not returning to the game tonight...upper body injury...guessing not hurt from the slash or the caps indicating the injury is between his ears but a good decision to get this game done in something that the refs can describe in the post game report in fewer than 20 pages.

Too late. The Capitals and NHL opened that can of worms already. I try not to be too judgemental of how victims respond, especially when the system failed them (blm crossthread)

I agree on the forfeit (although I admit I know about 2% of the relevant context, and it sounds like the Rangers maybe weren’t speaking with one voice).

If it really matters to you, you should be willing to sit out the game.

The problem with this argument is you then have to put blame on the Rangers for some stuff that happened in the games earlier this season. Going back this has been brewing between the teams. There was a cheap shot at Ovi in a game early in the year and some cheap stuff in the Rangers big win a few weeks ago. Had Wilson not continued to escalate it probably would be regular NHL crap...but this did not start 2 nights ago.

Also I agree Parros has botched this one. I have been a fan of his because of how nice he was to me at a Movember event when he was with the Ducks. I mean an unbelievable great experience...but realize that clouds my judgement.

This why this all sucks so much. That was a pretty chickenshit move from Buchnevich, he SHOULD be getting a talking to.

I know I'm stating the obvious, but man... It's tough to take this league seriously rn.

Exactly. In normal circumstances, everyone would agree this is a suspension, and I'm sure everyone agrees now, but the difference is that the DOPS is directly responsible for what happened in this game due to their own incompetence and any hearing or suspension at this point relating to this game is a complete farce.

What can the NHL even do with Buchnevich here? Zero games is ridiculous, but the league causes this because that doesn't happen if Wilson isn't playing. More than two games and you're carrying over your own fuck-up into 2021-22, which I'm sure the league doesn't want to do, but the offense itself absolutely warrants more than two games.

My guess is its two and they cite the fact that Mantha wasn't injured or something to move on. Also, no chance Parros is back next season unless he got overruled or something and the league doesn't sacrifice him.

I think the Rangers will go heavy on Buchnevich. You have to remember that the league ruled the Wilson incident on Monday as self-defense. So everything the Rangers did last night was unjustified aggression.
I mean, the headline on NHL.com today is "Oshie scores hat trick mourning father." Like nothing happened.
