Ya know, it has always pissed me off that instead of making an odd number of electors the standard we had to draw up a doomsday scenario in the event of a tie.
I'm sure there's a reason behind it, but holy shit.

Biden and the senate are the national stories but district attorneys, city councils and county commissioners are switching out in numbers. Cobb, douglas, henry and similar all have govt power structures that will rearrange over the next decade.

Re: Election Day 2020
It’s ultimately because they amended the Constitution in 1961 to give DC 3 electoral votes.
Each state’s EV count matches the number of the state’s representatives in the House and Senate. Overall, the House is usually an odd number to avoid ties there, and of course the Senate is even. So the sum is an odd number. But adding the 3 for DC gives the EC an even number.
Fun fact: the last time the House grew was in 1911. Our population has more than tripled since then.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Re: Election Day 2020
This feels super important. Truly. The there’s only 7000-15000 votes left to count there.
Re: Election Day 2020
I knew it was something like that. Couldn't they just have decided that DC was 2 EVs and kept it easy?Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Sat Nov 07, 2020 7:00 amIt’s ultimately because they amended the Constitution in 1961 to give DC 3 electoral votes.

And I know that EVs ebb and flow with population increase or decrease of a state. So this could be managed to make sure an odd number is the result, but no, I guess.

Re: Election Day 2020
Well, yeah, but it'd have been a lot less fair. Wyoming gets 3 EVs.
I've been digging into the Supreme Court case about the Pennsylvania late-arriving mail ballots.
The order Alito issued was simply an order that counties abide by the Pennsylvania Secretary of State's guidance. In other words, the order simply made the guidance legally binding (and took away the SoS's power to modify her order if she were so inclined).
The only dispute about the TRO is about whether the counties can count those late-arriving ballots. The State guidance said they should be counted but tallied separately. The Republican Party wanted them not counted at all. The Dem Party has argued that they should be counted because the whole dispute might be moot. And Alito's order allows them to be counted, though tallied separately.
If this case is decided on the merits, the Dem side is probably fucked. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court's ruling acknowledged that the governing statutes unambiguously required mail-in ballots to be received on Election Day. And also that the statute is not unconstitutional. But they created a three-day extension out of whole cloth based on vague state constitutional language about how the right to vote should be protected. If that were a Republican court making a pro-Republican ruling like that, our Twitter feeds would be (rightly) full of outrage and mockery.
Based on the way things are trending, and looking at Wasserman's analysis on Twitter and MSNBC this morning, I think the case will end up being moot.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Re: Election Week 2020
I think Team Trump is sending more emails now than they were the weeks prior to the election. Still looking to raise money, too. Last night they repeatedly hit the “we can’t let cities like Detroit and Philadelphia decide the election” message.
Emails from the Biden side have been at most one a day?

I got to drop some satisfying "America - love it or leave it" and "We won you lost - get over it"s to the contrarian lady in the building next-door who was calling the revellers 'welfare cunts' and booing.

Re: Election Week 2020
Whatever you think about Joe Biden I think the ultimate lesson from this election is that the Dems were correct not to confront a reality-show president with a reality show of their own. (Not a dig against any other Dem candidate, more of an overall statement about their strategy.)

Definitely. Plenty of people were pissed about the Hunter story and the Biden response, but not giving the Trump machine any oxygen to feed on was absolutely an overriding strategy of the entire campaign.brian wrote: ↑Sat Nov 07, 2020 11:57 am Whatever you think about Joe Biden I think the ultimate lesson from this election is that the Dems were correct not to confront a reality-show president with a reality show of their own. I have to admit. I have a real tinge of pride that the Philly vote count was what put Biden over the top.
