Woke up to a text from a friend who can't make it to see Tom Segura tonight. So, I'm looking forward to seeing him again.
Last time I "held his pocket." It was funny.

He's so funny. Watched two of his specials last weekend.

I'm a big fan of Segura. His delivery is so great.
Listened to the Two Bears, One Cave with him and Bert and it was pretty entertaining but I got a little burned out after a while.

Very funny show tonight all the way through. So many great stories weaved with hilarity between the one where he was macrodosed by Joey Diaz in Miami leading into him macrodosing his mom to stuff about his wife and kids. Just all around hysterical.
In between bits he was like "So what's the deal with them taking down our Confederate statues? What? I'm in Arizona. I need to know who's in my audience. Mostly where they're sitting. Where are my patriots?"
Also, I didn't know how dad passed away. Oh, and he had some seriously funny stuff about him.

This reminded me, if you don't follow TT on FB, he posted something about his dad passing and then going on stage about it that night (and leaving to a standing oviation)....i also liked the "don't talk to me about too soon"

Segura is great, and he seems like such a likable guy, too. I always forget about Two Bears, listen to a couple episodes and think I'm going to stick with it, then forget about it for months. Just saw a ranking, and it's the 25th most downloaded podcast. Kind of shocking.

I dunno... Watching the Segura bits about trans people getting offended by his mockery kinda reminded me of the little tempest in a teapot we had in the swamp awhile back when TT got defensive about people telling him he shouldn't punch down on marginalized people.

Y’all, some Houston stand ups are working with a fascist and things all make sense now.

Like they say, if you don’t recognize the fascist in the Houston comedy scene, you are the fascist.
I saw Ali Siddiq made a really ignorant comment that gay couples shouldn’t raise kids. I Googled, only came up with someone with Nazi paraphernalia attending a Houston ComicCon in 2017.

His name is Sean Dolan. He and his significant other are behind all the book uproar in our local district (oh no, they want to have a black person speak...we can't have that!) and is a general twat. I know no one likes either of them though and I'd be embarrassed to have my name associated with them in any way. Especially if I claimed to be a free speech advocate.

Really wish I didn't Google this. Most of what I'm finding is about a NJ teacher and author of children's books who died a couple years ago after losing half is skull and brain in an accident and survived for a while. Complete with pictures.
I've read a few articles about your local district's issues, and it's disgusting and infuriating. What does this guy have to do with the comedy scene though?

Watched Jerrod Carmichael's new HBO special last night. Completely different than anything I've ever seen, and I was really moved by it. More of a one man show confessional than a comedy show, but there were just enough jokes thrown in. I don't think I'm spoiling anything as the headlines were everywhere, and knowing the big secret didn't ruin anything, but he publicly came out during the show. The theme was talking about all the secrets his family kept and how he realized he was a hypocrite, so he came out in the middle of the show, then talked about how his family reacted, and how he is dealing with his mother handling his orientation. It felt like listening in on someone's therapy session at times, and the audience periodically shouting out questions or advice as he spoke really made the show so much stronger.

Maybe, but he also talked about all the same stuff during his SNL hosting monologue last week.

Impossible to prove, but I am guessing that a lower percentage of the American public watches SNL than you think.

Really liked Ronny Chieng's last Netflix show.
The new one? Not so much. Started out really well, but
Its not even that I sold out that bothers me, i always knew id sell out. What bothers me is how cheaply i sold out. My pen is a whore.
Ha. Yeah, I know it's hard to turn down paying gigs when you're still trying to get established. Maybe you can be subtly subversive. Those folks don't usually have much of a sense of humor, so you should be able to slip some stuff by them.

I saw some video and that guys arm was FUCKED UP. I am weirdly squeamish about that stuff and it got me good.
(Also, kind of Who Cares if the damn "joke" was funny. Jesus.)
The new Bill Burr stand up is on Netflix. It's not his best work, but still has very hilarious parts to it.

Dana Carvey was on Conan this week and he did an extended run on "angry east coast comedians that are rich but still have to find things to be angry about."
He and Conan went OFF and it was stop the car I'm crying laughing funny.
It also seemed like a direct (not mean-spirited) shot at Burr. At least that's who I had in mind when they were riffing.
It's probably clipped out on YouTube and it's worth finding.
