Also this ... you can hear the instant panic as soon as someone actually stands up. They are not individually confident about what they're doing.
Re: We Doing This Shit Again? (Trump Admin Meltdown II)
Does this poll high enough to not simply cave???
Re: We Doing This Shit Again? (Trump Admin Meltdown II)
The R's hold the Senate, the House, and the idiot in the White House. How can anyone else be blamed?
Thankfully, it appears the Democrats have now backed away from participating fully in the destruction of the government by voting in favor.
Sometimes it seems the Dems would rather work to avoid being blamed for anything than to actively oppose Trump and the R's.

Re: We Doing This Shit Again? (Trump Admin Meltdown II)
If that's the breakdown now, then the Dems are fucked if they force a shutdown. Because this will be filtered through the uneven media environment, where the normal media will run countless stories about how the Dems refused to let the government continue. And the best outcome is that there is so much noise that the voters just chalk it up to "both parties are equally bad." That's a death knell.
And SC, if the Dems refuse to even allow the US Senate to vote on whether to keep the government open, then the Dems are responsible. If this were a situation where the Rs needed Dem votes to get to a majority, that'd be different. But the Rs have the votes.
Bigger picture, if the Dems force a shutdown, what happens next? Do we think that the Rs care if the government shuts down? I'm sure they don't want a shutdown that they'll be blamed for, but do they actually care about keeping government open? Because if they don't, the shutdown won't give the Dems leverage to force the Rs to rein in Musk or Trump or the bullshit that's going on.
So if the Rs don't cave then the Dems will have to. Only then the cave will be a much bigger deal, and way more embarrassing.
The Republicans have basically taken the entire federal workforce and everyone who depends on it hostage. To me, forcing a shutdown would basically be taking even more of those people as hostages. Shutdowns inflict pain on many many people - and it's those people that the Dems care about (and that the farther left folks supposedly care about). The Dems would basically be doing Trump's and Musk's work for them.

Oh no, they'll get blamed even though the other party has control of both houses as part of control of all three branches.
They should absolutely support the fascists instead.

If the Republicans have something in the bill that is absolutely unacceptable, then that changes the calculus. But if it's a matter of keeping the government open versus not doing it, they should keep the government open.

The dems need to stand strong and not vote to pass the sham of a bill. By passing it, they would be giving more power to Trump. Not a better solution.
What they need to do is start hitting every news channel with a strong, solid response as to why. Start on course. Don't change the story. Keep it in the news for as long as necessary. Shout down those that try to say otherwise.

Do Dems want to define themselves or continue to be defined by their opponent and the media. Deliver angry furious speeches, bang on the table, make it clear to the American people in no uncertain terms that there still is left a choice between evil and cruelty and something slightly more benign. But loudly seek to make the clearest case possible right fucking now that the republicans plans will leave you in the fucking dust now. Instead Schumer is playing Chamberlain to Trump’s Hitler. When they get lambasted, make the case again, and again, and again about the Trump/Musk Republicans trying to privatize your social security so the oligarchs can get a cut of everything. Trump and Muskwant a feudal society and Democrats need to say that loud and clear. In unison. Not this mamby -pamby boot-licking schlock. FUCK.

Anyway …
I dunno. There’s a lot of assumptions that it’s possible to “make the case” to the electorate. I see no reason to believe that assumption. Things aren’t bad enough for the general public to rally against Trump and Musk.
There are reasons why the Allies didn’t invade Normandy in June 1942. They didn’t have the power - and the Germans had too much. An invasion in 1942 would have caused way more harm than good.

Is the federal government gutting funding for the city of Washington DC unacceptable enough? Or should an entire city that has no Congressional representation eat shit?Steve of phpBB wrote: Thu Mar 13, 2025 4:57 pmThey should support the people who need the government to stay open. Re: We Doing This Shit Again? (Trump Admin Meltdown II)
Can someone explain why MAGA is so focused on Columbia? Were the anti-IDF protests there particularly violent or hateful compared to other places?
That “From the River to the Sea” shit is pretty odious IMO (though understandable), but weren’t protestors saying that everywhere? Has the Administration just decided to focus on Columbia to make them an example?

Apparently they’re already moving past Columbia.

At what point is voting for this party and keeping them in perpetual semi-power doing more harm than good? Is that already in the rearview?

Love to see that the “good guys” are using government workers as pawns now.
Also. Shutting down the government is exactly what most of these turds want so isn’t explicitly taking responsibility for it giving them exactly what they want without any of the repercussions?
But again I’m no political genius like Mr D and Johnnie.

Yes, because government workers might be in peril soon if the Dems don’t co-sign what’s next. Luckily now they’re safe and we’re back to normal.
