Holy cow did West Ham get a deal on that Olympic stadium.
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/33214058
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/33214058
Converting it into the new home of Premier League side West Ham United will now cost £272m, meaning the overall spend will reach £702m for the 54,000-seater arena
And their annual rent is 2 million pounds.Certainly, the agreement that anchor tenants West Ham negotiated - to pay just £15m towards the conversion costs - looks more and more like the deal of the century.

The best/worst part is that a Minnesota team is coming in a couple of seasons, they want to use the "United" moniker too, and in their case it actually makes some sense.

Tottenham just increased the size of their new stadium (which is finally under construction).
It is being built with the NFL in mind.

Spurs wanted the Olympic Stadium (and considering what West Ham is paying... who could blame them.
The Crystal Palace site was always the third choice behind the Olympic Stadium and staying in Tottenham. But the team had real difficulties with the local council getting approval, and then some of the owners of adjacent property held out for a lot of cash. The last hold out - Archway Steel -had an unfortunate thing happen to his business...

Basically, building the new stadium along White Hart Lane is a real hassle - and the team will have to play away from Tottenham for two full seasons.
The options are Wembley, Milton Keynes or a combination of both. None of which is optimal. making things worse is the fact that Chelsea also wants to play home games at Wembley while Stamford Bridge is being redeveloped. Daniel LEvy is a frugal man - he won't throw cash around like Abramovich, so Spurs may spend two years out in the wilderness.

Wonder if the NFL can cut a deal to have them play their home league matches on the East Coast in an NFL stadiums. Wonder if that would help Spurs jump up a few spots in the U.S. Setup in the Mid Atlantic at the begging of the year, in the Winter move to Florida and as the spring hits go to New England.Pruitt wrote:Spurs wanted the Olympic Stadium (and considering what West Ham is paying... who could blame them.

That sucks, I really like Depay. And man did RvP fall off fast. Cech signed with Arsenal a week or two ago, and Arsenal are rumored to be close to signing 10 star strikers, CBs and defensive midfielders. Higuain and Benzema are "almost done deals" for the third season in a row. Lots of talk of Raheem Sterling moving, which kind of has to happen with all the bad blood and statements made. Of course, the Arsenal beat writers had Sterling's locker set up at the Emirates since February.govmentchedda wrote:United signed Memphis Depay, and apparently are in for Torino defender Matteo Darmian. This story caught my eye because I thought it was weird that the Spurs would considering moving so far away, to South London. Is moving from one side of town to another a big deal, or of as little significance as the NY Jets moving from Shea to The Meadowlands? (It seems weird to me that Arsenal moved from South London to Highbury, and that was like 100 years ago.)

Europeans are so Parochial (or is it "tribal"?") when it comes to their towns and home regions. Unimaginable that a team in England would move 40 miles like the 49ers did. And in London (where there are maybe 10 Football League teams) home territory is traditionally is so small. Granted, the bigger teams now have huge international audiences...
Some Spurs fans were apoplectic at the thought of the team moving to the east end (Olympic Stadium). Even though they'd save time getting to the games and the facilities would be better.
Tradition and all that...

Club loyalty is very neighborhood specific in Europe and England. It's a remnant from the origin of the clubs. They used to be actual clubs, and people joined their neighborhood club. From what I understand, it still works this way for kids in Holland.howard wrote:

I read an article that Higuain is rated at £65 mil and Benzema is only £40. There is no way anyone is paying that much for Higuain. Especially after his Copa 'heroics.' Spurs supposedly close to signing James McCarthy from Everton. Because you can never have too many defensive central midfielders.
Supposedly also going after Kevin Mirallas who is the type of player they could use. McCarthy? Money should be spent elsewhere.

Man City reminds me of an old joke about Russians. (Apologies if it offends)
Two Russian guys bump into each other at a club. On says to the other "I really like your shirt."
Other guy says "Thanks - it's a Versace."
First guy asks "What did you pay for it?"
Guy answers "Fifteen hundred dollars."
First guy boasts "Huh! I could have got it for eighteen hundred."
