NBA 2014-15 Thread

Post by A_B »

One thread will be plenty I imagine.

This Celtics fan is ready...and I'm pretty sure that Bill Simmon's dad is sitting aisleside at 1:09..in fact for the preview he's the guy in the back sweater looking up at the scoreboard.

There are a couple of spots open in the 12 man fantasy pool I'm in.

It's a low stress, low budget affair - so low budget that I can't remember if it's $50 or $100.

I'll have details tomorrow. Pm me if you're interested.

The only good reason to go to a Pistons game. I'm not bad myself, but as you can see they shut me down right at the end of the clip just as I was about to bust some moves.

Pretty good article - tainted by some melodrama - about Steve Nash's importance to basketball in Canada.

Nash was never MVP in my book. Couldn't play enough D. But in his long prime of ten years or so, there was no more elegant, interesting player.

I was already planning on posting something here about the Lakers' season likely turning into a dumpster fire, but holy shit, it just got even worse: first-round pick Julius Randle broke his leg in the first game of the season.

This is going to be really bad--lots of questionable character guys (including Kobe on a bad team) and the basketball equivalent of Dusty Baker as a coach, and a front office run by a thoroughly inept legacy kid. I'm honestly considering the possibility that Kobe just up and retires in the middle of the season to avoid killing someone.

Which team will lose more games this year, Lakers or Celtics?

And Toronto is caught up in low level Raptor fever. This is a city that has learned to temper expectations, but considering that we are more used to being a lottery team than a playoff team, it is a lot of fun around here right now.

After game 1, Ariza looks like the better option over Parsons. Rockets looked really smooth at times last night in the first half (I couldn't stay awake for second) with several nice fastbreaks where the ball never touched the court. I know that was probably helped by who we were playing, but still nice to see in the first game.

Assuming you're being honest--the original Charlotte Hornets moved to New Orleans and kept the Hornets name for around a decade, then decided to change it to Pelicans last year. This freed up the Hornets name, which the Charlotte Bobcats, the expansion team created to replace the original Hornets, then re-adopted starting this year.

I'm going the homer route. Celtics will be a fun .500 team with great perimeter defense, and some good inconsistent weapons. And maybe Brad Stevens can work his magic.

Exactly. C's will be frisky and the present roster will be different by the end of the year due to the trade pieces they've acquired. Lakers will be a lay-up line D with Kobe shooting 40 times a game.

Will pay attention to the Cs for at least a little while and I tend to agree that they will be better than the Lakers but im not quite sure what they've got. I want to believe that some of these guys are at least decent role players but certainly there is a distinct lack of top level talent. Id say they are two allstars away but im not totally sold that you could win even if they added a defensive center and scoring swingman.

It would not surprise me if the Lakers lost ten more games than the Celtics and the Celtics are not close to being a playoff team, even in the weaker conference.

There are a lot of guys in the NBA with bad/extreme tattoos. But Mike Scott of the Hawks looks like a walking fridge covered with bad sketches.

Huge black widow crawling up the back of his neck, the classic red lips, multicoloured basketballs, friggin emojis. No Chris Anderson, but give him time.

The Bulls-Knicks game was on a side tv when I was watching the WS. Couple thoughts:

1. Maybe I missed this, but ESPN made the team logos CGI 3D and moving around and shit. And the Bulls logo looks strange as fuck.

Image

2. The Bulls might be really good, the Knicks might be really shitty, or both might be true.

3. A healthy Rose makes the league so much more entertaining.

Lakers get to keep their 1st round draft pick if it's top 5, otherwise they lose it to the Suns (from the Nash trade). I hope they get it...

But, now that I'm paying attention, I can see why you have to trade Wiggins for Love.

In the sort of way the "I believe" chant picked up for the World Cup, I figured this would catch in Cleveland. Especially with Lebron and his pregame choreography. I think it would be pretty cool if the entire arena "huddled up" before the game (from their seats) and broke with a 1,2,3 Cleveland. Sort of like Maryland Hoops "fist pump" thing when the fans (mostly students) started doing it with Gary Williams when he walked onto the court...but at a way bigger scale.

I think it will take 10-12 games with the new teammates to really get the flow going and figure out what their rotation is. It's a Blatt issue as much as a Lebron issue; he's got some tinkering to figure out.
