Interesting take. I recall something about the altitude, which the article referenced as a possibility. There is probably something to the unique factor, like I never think to order tomato juice, but it's more interesting than water or soda, and you know you are going to be bored and stuck on the plane, so hey, something different!

For me I feel like it's the uniqueness factor. I never have bloody mary mix at home. But on a plane I can order a single can of it, drink it, and be done with it. Same with ginger ale.

Yeah, on the scale of "should you give a shit" it's very very low. But schadenfreude is a strong drug, and she kind of deserves a bit of what she's catching. The cucumber thing is pretty funny.

Apropos of nothing, I just watched Peanut Butter Falcon yesterday, which if you haven't seen it, wrestling plays a key plot point... Very sweet movie, despite Dakota Johnson's effort to derail it. I don't know how she keeps getting work... what a bland person.

I don't like when people introduce me to someone just because we root for the same sports team. Why is it more likely I'd like someone just because they're a Steeler fan? Most of the time, these people don't know dick about the Steelers either. Like half the non-Steeler fans in the swamp know more about the Steelers. Fucking makes me an anxious mess every damn time.

So I have no one else to really share this with because I know no specifics other than “I’m a heart attack waiting to happen”, but apparently my wife is a heart attack waiting to happen according to a doctor she went to to help figure out why she’s tired all the time. I’m not OK. Just heard and am freaking out waiting to hear more. It is “hopefully” treatable per her text, but she is going to tell me more when she gets home. But she is freaking out too.

Good luck, Giff. “Heart attack waiting to happen” often means really high cholesterol. Which is very treatable with a strong dosage of a statin and some diet adjustment.

Thanks guys. My wife is my very best friend and I don't know what I'd do if something happened to her before I go.

It's a sleep apnea issue. The doctor said he would normally just prescribe a CPAP machine, but one of her holes up her nostril (that's the technical term, btw) is so narrow that the doctor doesn't think it would do anything. Next step is surgery ASAP to fix that and then CPAP. She probably won't need that very long depending on what she does with her weight. The silver lining here is that she's wondered why she hasn't been able to make much progress there despite daily exercise and a better diet, and the doctor said this could be very much to blame. Bad sleep equals bad weight loss results according to him.

sancarlos, that is probably my story. I'm going tomorrow for a physical and referrals for a colonoscopy/other hearing issues I've been having. I know I'm due an extreme diet change (i.e. no more Fresca/vodkas!).

Especially no Fresca if they put you on statins.

I think it’s a YMMV thing but I had a fresca vodka kick once and I was feeling like shit all the time. Turns out the grapefruit is a no no for statins. Even the little bit in Fresca. Doctor told me and I get better almost immediately.

Giff, is this something that has just come up/been exacerbated by the last 9-10 months or been an issue even longer? I ask because I remember you mentioning at some point over the late spring or summer that her work had evolved into an extremely stressful situation and just was wondering if something could be done on that end (disability, look for a different job, whatever) to help alleviate the situation.

1) There was a reddit thread about grapefruit and its effects on the liver the other day, so that's a weird coincidence for me reading about it again. (I can't seem to find it now.)

2) I sleep with a CPAP because I rated at 59 events per hour during my sleep study. With it I'm down to a much lower, safer amount. However, I still have trouble sleeping and am always tired regardless. Maybe I need to get checked again.

All that to say, I hope everything goes smoothly and her sleep improves. A CPAP literally changed everything overnight for me.

My son has a CPAP machine but has lost a bunch of weight lately and no longer needs it. Your wife may only need it for a while.

Grapefruit is an evil fruit - it interferes with thyroid medication as well.
