I ask because I remember you mentioning at some point over the late spring or summer that her work had evolved into an extremely stressful situation and just was wondering if something could be done on that end (disability, look for a different job, whatever) to help alleviate the situation.
No, her job has been amazing. She works for huge cancer hospital here and loves it. She's gone full remote now and sees her job as a lone bright spot in 2020. Could have been mine though!

Thanks for all the good vibes, guys. I love this place.

Surgery scheduled for 1/19. Should be a fun couple weeks of not worrying about anything at all!

BSF, we talked at brunch about y'all after you commented on her shirt. We're going to Michigan this summer and one of our routes takes us through Indianapolis, which we will take if this COVID thing is done.

Well they won't know their route until they can be sure it's safe to travel, Syb.

Having been around a lot of doctors "off the clock" they say shit like this without really thinking about it ALL THE TIME. Part of it is just gallows humor/hyper-realism.

I also think that when it's something where they have a good handle on it, and yes it's serious, but it's not something to truly freak out about (it's imminently treatable) they are likely to pop off like that. Not an excuse, just an observation.

And, Giff, hang in there. I have a similar relationship with my wife and she's gone through some pretty scary health issues the last 3 years and the best i can do is be supportive in whatever effort she needs to undertake (exercise, diet, not lifting shit, etc.)

When we talked she said he didn't say it in any way other than "please know this is serious" and that if they didn't take action soon it could be dire.

Shit Giff. My wife had an actual heart attack (or episode) a few years ago and it was scary as shit. Hope that this all is very quickly treatable.

Interestingly, I've been reading a book called Breath by James Nestor and one of the things he talks about is his apnea/snoring/health troubles were alleviated by making sure he always took in air through his nose.

You joke, but I only recently, after I got an adjustable bed, was able to breath through my nose while sleeping with regularity.

Oh I get it. I can't either. My septum is so deviated it wrecks the curve for the class.

I listened to him on a podcast, fascinating how much of a difference it makes in so many systems when you breathe through your nose. It's kind of shocking. But to your point, I got bored and deleted halfway through.

That is hilarious. For the record, I wasn't being a dick and sarcastically asking for comments on your travels, should have deleted that part, but wishing you luck and asking for updates post- surgery.

I'm for sure going to see a specialist when I get to Tucson now. I can barely breathe through my nose and can't sleep on my back. I have to strategically sleep on my side while wearing a full face mask because my jaw drops while resting. Hrmmm.

A few years ago when Jim Schwartz was the Bills' DC, I was looking for proof that he's Jewish.

Did some research and found out his son is named Christian.

Christian Schwartz is a hell of a name.

Schwartz was a football player at Mt. St. Joe High (Catholic School). Not the end all be all of not-being Jewish but most of the Jewish kids in Bmore end up at other private schools (even some that our affiliated with churches)

The author cites studies that when patients are forced to breathe through their nose it performs some corrections on problems that led the patients to become mouth breathers. Also talks about how basically all religious mantras (rosary to Ohm) are all about 5.5-6 seconds long which is the best breath sequence for the body....though there is a section on various athletes/coaches that subscribe to using hyperventilation training to improve performance, your body doesn't use all the oxygen we ingest with each breath, and when the CO2 we breath out is equal to the oxygen that is brought in. If you can expel more CO2 with each breath performance can be increased.

So last week I traded in my 2019 16” MacBook Pro for store credit to be applied to the new 13” MacBook Pro with the M1 chip I ordered a couple weeks ago.

That new MBP just arrived. I unboxed it and now I have to wait for it to warm to room temperature before I plug it in or power it on cuz it sat in a dang UPS truck all day.

I’ve spent more time in Canada than probably any non-Canadian on this board (save maybe Rams Fanny but we have similar backgrounds) and even I get trapped in the mythology of Canadians as progressive and reasonable and sometimes it’s important to remember your average Canadian can be every bit as dumb and a hick as your average American.

At least two different people in two different conversations have already complained about Biden and Trudeau being “in cohoots” though in case you’re wondering about the politics. Though Canadian conservatives are usually closer to moderate American Democrats though many would never admit it.

I might be able to give you a run. My father was a Canuckaphile, so we made trips to Canada most summers. Toronto, Quebec, Ottawa, several trips to the Canadian side of Thousand Islands (he had a thing for Fort Henry), Niagara Falls several times. We played soccer tourneys in Buffalo and Rochester every year, and there were always Canadian teams. When we played Canadian teams, my father would stand on the other side line and chat up the other teams' parents. Then going to college 20 minutes from the border, we went to Canada all the time. Went to Toronto at least once every year. Same with Niagara Falls, plus trips when friends would visit. When we were 21, we'd make trips to cross the border, buy the high alcohol beers at duty free, then come right back. I mean, they were like 6 or 7%!!! Totally worth the drive and sitting in line at Customs. Even got laughed at by inspectors a couple times. "You crossed the border 10 minutes ago, bought 2 cases of beer and are going home?" "Yeah, man. It's 1% more alcohol than Ice beer!"

That’s pretty impressive though I’ll raise you a Canadian girlfriend (a real one) for 18 months after college and a Canadian great-grandmother who lived across the border in Windsor until she died when I was 11. Lived 15 minutes from the border until I was 11. We’d used to go just for the BBQ place right by the Detroit-Windsor tunnel* and then after I turned 19 we’d drive two hours to go to the bar every weekend because we were stupid as fuck. So our backgrounds are definitely similar.

Anyway, you know what I know. Average Canadians are basically average Americans except with any good qualities dialed up about 20-25 percent (which is enough to make the difference.).

*- Before 9/11 especially in border cities like Detroit they really didn’t give a fuck why you were crossing the border and required literal proof of anything.
