Wait... you're supposed to put it in a jar first? I've always just poured it into the bag. I don't do deep-frying, so generally I can can sop it up with paper towels.

Yeah at some point I was just drinking that liquid plumber stuff while sitting on the can. Why bother getting up?
Also pro tip, those flushable baby wipes are fucking lifesavers.

Yeah just about anything is "flushable." Those things don't break down (like, at all) and are responsible for a lot of issues in the sewer system.

Ever think about what the dumbest, but most realistic, new fear you could create from scratch to trick anti-vaxxer types. Assume you have funding for a mini-army of online posters who can reach the proper channels, so the only hurdle is credulity. Like "clothing manufactured in Indonesia has been known to break down and, if the wearer is sweating, certain particles can leach into the bloodstream causing that person to be seven times more likely to develop Alzheimer's" type shit. That could totally get a certain type checking all labels and avoiding purchases.

I panicked for a second and then remembered I only buy canned tuna in water. (That said, I assume there's varying levels of viscosity and not all oils are equal as far as potential damages to blockages in piping.)

True. Ground beef grease has to be the worst. Turns to thick wax when it cools.

This morning I had to give a sperm sample as part of our IVF process. The guy at reception had a booming voice, like PA Announcer voice.
Not that going to give a sperm sample is a secretive thing but not sure they should hire a guy so loud.

I was 4th in line, standing socially distanced apart and I could hear the guy at the front of the line apologizing that he had sex last night and only remembered his appointment when he got up this morning. You're supposed to abstain for 72 hours. Then the receptionist in his booming voice, "Oh, that is a problem then, we'll have to contact your referral doctor. Can you tell me exactly what time you had sex last night?" The next guy was having his sperm frozen and had to come back today because his sample two days ago failed. I'm 20 feet away, I can hear everything.

That is funny. We tried artificial insemnation when I was having trouble knocking up my wife. They gave us a little jar and told us (me) to produce a sample into it after I woke up in the morning, put it in a little brown bag they provided, and bring it to the office and give it to them by 7:00 am.

So I get there, and the staff is a bit late for work. There are four of us guys there, each with our little brown bags, trying to act casual with each other while we waited.

This is my theory. Read a great book about Area 51, can’t think of the name, explained a lot of the UFO sightings from the 40s-80s with specific unclassified docs about the SR-71, stealth planes and other experimental planes. The CIA and Air Force intentionally let UFO/alien conspiracy shit live on to create a distraction.

How offensive do you think the term “butter face” is if you’re not using in a way that the person described would ever find out about it?

Looks like I have some books to acquire.

And you mention the SR-71. I gotta jump into Sled Driver and the Skunk Works book I already have. (And the book Command and Control since I'm now starting a military rabbit hole.)

2021's maiden lawn-mowing attempt will be underway soon, batteries fully charged and ready to rock. Last year's inaugural mow took something like 6 1/2 hours with all the required recharges.

Exciting time to be alive.

Do you have multiple batteries? I have one, and the opening mow ran it all the way down, so i had to charge it while I trimmed around the fences and house and shizz. Can usually get it done on a single charge. Is that an electric riding mower? That sounds like too much time to be fiddling with an eletric push mower.

If you can’t mow your yard on a single charge, then yeah the technology is not yet fully baked.

Next door neighbors got $40k over asking (I think it was priced $15-20k too low, fwiw), plus 2 months free rent after closing so the kids can finish the school year.

We've heard of multiple non-million dollar houses here going for $200K over asking with 20+ bids. Its just insane and if we had any good idea of where to go next we might have done it.

My friend is going through a divorce. Sold the house, and he is trying to get a townhouse. He keeps putting in offers well over ask and can't close any of them. Last one, a competing offer came in at $30k over ask, sight unseen, waiving inspection and appraisal. I'm thinking that must be a cash offer, because I can't see a bank going for that.

It's been like that for a while here. We have some friends who's son and his wife have been looking for a house for a while, and they keep getting skunked on the 'escalator clause' nonsense.

On the house purchasing front, just when I thought I would be able to bank a bunch of money being in Korea so that I could put down a nice down payment on a place in Tucson, I honestly don't think that will be enough.

I think I'll end up banking what equity is gained on a future house essentially negating any sort of "upgrade" I might find. It's a shitty feeling.

It’s still crazy here, too. Three new spec homes in the neighborhood. One sold while it was still being built and the other two sold immediately after listing. All of them for crazy high prices.

Same here on the realtors. But I’m told that the established top realtors get tons of clients and all the rest fight for scraps. The wife of a friend of mine is one of the top Palo Alto agents and she makes more in a month than I can hardly believe. She said it’s because buyers want somebody with a track record of success winning bids and sellers want somebody who will get them every dollar possible. And Palo Alto is so expensive that a 3% commission on one transaction can make her year (and then some). She recently sold a $10 million property near Stanford.
