Tiger...looks like that new swing (Based on the old swing) needs some work. Well at least he got a nice sponsorship from the tourney sponsor.

So Robert Allenby got kidnappedand Tiger Woods lost a tooth to a cameraman.

Image

Strange times on the PGA tour.

Though I think that Allenby story has a bit of "hiking the Appalachian trail" to it. Some odd details about his whereabouts at the time, so I think maybe he got his ass kicked by a mad boyfriend/husband but that won't fly with the little lady at home. Pure speculation and rumor mongering.

While they waited for the taxi, Allenby told her about his golfing career and his children.

"He did most of the talking," she said. "I didn't have much to say. I'm homeless."
Sad face.

"Allenby got drunk, lost his wallet and fell on his own dumb face" sounds about right to me.

Ryan Palmer is -10 through 10 holes today. Shot a 27 on the par 36 front and then birdied 10 to boot.

Tiger is um, not back.

44 on the front nine.

I had a local golf pro tell me three or four years ago that he didn't think Tiger would win another major. I argued he was still young, many golfers play their best in their late 30s, and Tiger would get at least two or three more. We put $50 on whether he would win another major or not, which at the time, I thought was the best bet I'd ever made...... not looking so good right now.

I guess it's the health that is the killer - but I cannot also help but wonder if the humiliation etc. from the driveway incident and all that followed is a part of it. Whatever edge he used to carry was gone in the aftermath of that.

I've always maintained that Tiger ruined his game when he got all jacked up. He grew up as a long, skinny kid with a huge, fluid swing. There was no need to develop a 300 pound-pressing physique. Sure, he couldn't have that young kid swing forever, but he could have dialed that back without turning into a linebacker. That threw off his balance and flexibility. I think his constant tinkering with his swing was in large part to have to deal with a completely different body shape. Once it went south, he's just never found it again.

There's a good reason that nobody else on Tour looks like that.

Well, this is one way to ace a par 4.

I almost holed out a par 4 (~300 yards?) once but the course was completely burned out except for the greens so I'm kinda glad it didn't work out. Would have always had to explain that as a "yeah, but ..."

Yeah, explaining a hole in one would've been a real chore.

It wouldn't have been legit. Not that a perfect chip on a par 3 would be legit given my skill level, but this would have been like "I once hit a ball out of a baseball stadium ... it was in Colorado and there was a 75 mph tailwind". I can't hit the ball 300 yards under real conditions.

I'd rather have hit it out of Colorado with the tailwind than have not done so.

Yeah, short of some kind of cheating I don't think acing a par 4 requires any "yeah, but". Pretty much under no circumstances would any kind of ace require a "yeah, but". There's like 100 or 110 yard par 3s on muni courses and acing one of them is just as much as an accomplishment as any other kind of hole in my opinion.

Well then I hope you guys someday make holes-in-one on courses that are more or less concrete. I'll be the guy muttering "that shouldn't really count" while you regale the crowds.

Would it deserve an asterisk if the ace was one a par 3 course?

I wouldn't asterisk myself there because its something I'm physically capable of doing.

Oh, wait, one of those par 3 courses with some 70 yard holes? Those don't count.

These are all normal length par 3s that you would see on a regular course. 134 yard on #16, specifically.

I think I'd always say "... but it was on a par 3 course" and feel inferior to real hole-in-ones-ers.

No, I'm glad I have it. It's still a fun story. I throw in the par 3 course caveat sometimes and out of my golfing friends, it's more "holy shit that's awesome...I wish I had one" rather than "eh, discounted". Everyone around me that day thought it was awesome. I was with my girlfriend at the time and her father. He was in his early 50s, had alzheimer's and was rapidly declining. I actually never met him pre-diagnosis. From that day until the last time I saw him in 2003, he called me Ace, so it was pretty neat to me that he had some sort of connection to that. He passed in April 2004 at 55...just heartbreaking.

Wha-wha.

A hole in one is a hole in one. I've holed exactly two shots in my life longer then 40 yards and none more than probably about 55. So yeah, 70 yards is easier than 130, but still legit!

Tiger loses the EA Golf Game. "Tiger Woods EA Golf" still sound better than "Rory McIlroy PGA Tour"..but better than Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge

What is the penalty if you hit a gator with a shot?

I think they're on to something with this revised world match play format. Lot of gambling potential in this one.

Now that I've seen it, I'd propose two tweaks:

1) Matches all square after 18 holes should be halved. They can give out points and half points like the Ryder Cup.
2) All tiebreakers at the end of 3 matches should be by sudden death.

That ought to make the last round of group play (i.e., tomorrow) more chaotic with more possibilities, which is the whole point of this format. This should have been the Olympic format.
