NFL 2014 Week 12
Ralph Wilson Stadium looks like this -
The team is offering $10 an hour and tickets for the Jets game to anyone with a shovel willing to tackle this mess.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/buffalo-bil ... t-stadium/
But another foot or two of snow is on the way and the game could be moved. To where though? Syracuse? Toronto?
Oh, and the highways are closed in the area and a driving ban is in effect in the area around the stadium. Good luck getting the Ralph ready for Sunday.
In other news, my father has a pair on the 40 yard line for the game if anyone is interested.

Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
I realize it's a lot of snow even for Buffalo, but they don't have some kind of plan in place to deal with a snowstorm that happens four days before a game? I mean it's Buffalo for fuck's sake. Lake effect snow is a way of life there.

Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
I was surprised to read that story too, but this snow is ridiculous - even for Buffalo. I think one of the problems is that no one can get to the stadium to clean it out. Also, there's another whopper of a storm on the way.
Another issue -
The temperature is due to hit the high 40s by Saturday morning with a fairly heavy rain forecast. Could be a slush fest - or there could be a Monday night doubleheader. They are working with the NFL to find the best alternative, should a Sunday game become impossible, and there is a chance it could be relocated or delayed, especially if another two feet of snow hits on Thursday as forecast.
Bills Vice President of Operations Andy Major told reporters Wednesday it's hard to tell whether the field will be cleared.
Major says it usually takes three days to clear a one-foot snowfall. The snow removal has already begun, and Major hopes to round up 500 people working three shifts around the clock to clear the facility.
Another issue -
Bills players have been unable to reach their practice facility and a driving ban is in effect in parts of the city with even more snow expected on Thursday.
Coach Doug Marrone said the Bills are video-taping gameplan information to the team and distributing it to players digitally while the weather troubles continue - they eventually had to cancel Wednesday's session completely.

In a semi-related note, the SUNY-Buffalo game scheduled tonight against Kent State was postponed, surprising absolutely no one. If not for the travel advisory they could have considered trying to see if they could get it in at the Carrier Dome. No one would have attended, but that's not much different from a normal Buffalo game.

Carrier Dome is out of commission this week, fellas, as it is hosting minor league and college hockey on Saturday, as seen here.

Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
The Bills-Jets game will definitely not be in Buffalo.
Most likely Detroit on Monday night (as per Barfallo radio).
Now, they are worried that the following Sunday's home game against the Browns will not be played at the Ralph. Maybe they will play it here in Toronto?

Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
Happy to have y'all in Detroit - it's seemingly the go-to destination for games ruined by enormous amounts of snow (Bert Farv's last NFL game was played there dontchaknow?) but wouldn't Toronto be a much more logical location given the (relatively) huge amounts of Bills fans there already? Is Rogers/Skydome/whateverthefuckitscalledthesedays not available?Pruitt wrote:The Bills-Jets game will definitely not be in Buffalo.

If the Argos had finished first in the division they would be hosting the Eastern Final this Sunday. But they're out so SkyDome should be open.

Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
I believe logistics could be a problem with that move, ie some members of the Jets or even the Bills (have they played in Toronto this season?) may not have passports.

Interesting, you never needed a passport in the past. Now, apparently, US citizens don't need a passport to go into Canada, but US citizens need a passport to get back into the US. I'm fine with a couple of Jets not being let back into the US. Maybe they can succeed in the CFL.Gunpowder wrote:I believe logistics could be a problem with that move, ie some members of the Jets or even the Bills (have they played in Toronto this season?) may not have passports.

Crazy thing - a guy my sister knows who lives about three miles from the stadium in Orchard Park tweeted this shot about an hour ago...

You don't want to know how much I bet on the ML on Oakland in today's game out of nothing more than a hunch than the NFL is essentially the WWE and wouldn't want to see Oakland go 0-16 and that PI call on KC on Oakland's game-"winning" drive paid off handsomely.

Also Kansas City is 1-4 all-time against winless teams that are 0-10 or worse. That's a staggering stat. Seriously. Think about that one for a minute. They've won 20 percent of their games all-time against teams that are SO BAD they've managed to start their season with 10 losses or more without a win. Mindfuck.

Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
If last night's game was a case of a team "looking ahead," than I think the Chiefs may have just looked at their playoff shot disappear.
At 7-4, and with this schedule:
Denver
@ Arizona
Oakland
@ Pittsburgh
San Diego
They are staring at 9-7.
I think Alex Smith is a decent QB, and Andy Reid is clearly a good Head Coach, but would it have hurt the Chiefs to throw a couple deep balls during the game? Same thing pissed me off when I saw the Bills lose to KC - the Bills that day threw a single deep ball, so KC was able to shut down the short passing game.
A richly deserved loss - I am kind of old school when it comes to football, but "being conservative" should not mean "being stubborn."
And during the game, I thought that at one point Phil Simms was going to head to the sideline to blow Dwayne Bowe. The praises being sung for this "unselfish" player, this "leader" who places his team above himself was sick making.

And while I have seen Smith play before, I guess I just never noticed how small a playbook they have given him. But a lot of criticism has to be aimed at the coaches - the Raiders were clearly pumped for this one, and they just simply made no adjustments. A couple of deep balls can make a huge difference.

He looked composed and most importantly, in charge of the team.
And while Carr was in his team mates' faces, trying to pump everyone up, Smith was shown Cutler-ing it up on the sidelines.

Alex Smith has completed like 5 deep balls in his entire career. The Eagles used to go deep to DJax regularly. I'm not sure of course, but I'd wager this is more on Smith than Reid.

God do I hate cliches. Carr was celebrating like he won a damn Super Bowl. He's done this before and they were 0-10.
Smith meanwhile never freaks out and his teams have generally been really good. Can't a bad team just beat a good team sometimes or do we always have to cite intangibles when it happens?
