Oh, I taught them at a young age about that, and checking to see if dishes are microwave safe.

Also, tell them not to scrape the windshield with a credit card they don't want to risk breaking. (I had a roommate who once did this.)

I used to ride to high school with a friend who would do that, and only scrape enough to be able to see out, so it was like he was driving a tank.
(it was super early in the morning, so usually zero traffic to worry about)

I did give him a scraper! I just didn't tell him how to use it or when to warm his car up a bit first.

A work colleague moved here from California and had never had to deal with frost. She and her roommate were flummoxed by it all and decided the best way to deal with it was pouring boiling hot water on the windshield.
Don't do that.

My daughter found out that she got a second interview on 1/4 with Wayfair. If she gets the job, she'll have to start working on 1/29, in Boston.

Indoor season hasn't been a struggle but it hasn't quite panned out as the boy hoped.. and yet..
yesterday he finally ran a race where he felt good, turned on the jets and didn't have any side stitches...
they won the two races he ran, the DMR and the 4x8... so first place in the county.. and today #6 in the country.

Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
My older daughter had a second interview last Thursday with WayFair, in Boston. They told her they would get in touch by tomorrow.
Today she got an email from the Senior Recruiter, with the subject line "Follow up from Wayfair!", and saying she wants to set up a time tomorrow to "chat through next steps".
That means she's getting an offer, right? That's how I'm reading it...if they weren't going to make an offer, they would have just said something about "going a different direction" or something.

Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
Not necessarily...my experience has been that companies require three interviews but it could be an offer. What is for certain is they are interested.

Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
Hmm...a third interview could be in play. Hadn't thought of that.
They did talk about a start date of 1/29, so that's not much time to get that scheduled. This is an entry level job, where she would be coming in with a "cohort" of other entry level people.
Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
For an entry level gig then there might not be a third and it could be an offer.DaveInSeattle wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 5:54 pmHmm...a third interview could be in play. Hadn't thought of that.

Side note: My wife has worked with Wayfair for years (she works for a furniture company that sells some of their stuff through them)…they cut about 10% of their workforce a year or two ago and to date had not replaced them so I guess they might have been trying to streamline or trim some fat but I do think they are still struggling a bit.

I did my part and ordered something from Wayfair for my daughter for Christmas. That should help. I think there is a chance of an offer and walking through the hiring process, but it could be another interview. Good luck to her!GoodKarma wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 9:12 pmFor an entry level gig then there might not be a third and it could be an offer.DaveInSeattle wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 5:54 pmHmm...a third interview could be in play. Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
SHE GOT THE JOB!
Starts with a cohort on 1/29. They said she could wait to start until April, with the next cohort, but she feels like she doesn't want to take a chance on having the offer pulled again, like what happened with West Monroe.
She's giddy with excitement...and I'm pretty damn happy for her. But I'm going to miss her....just getting used to having her here!
