I can't remember where/who, but earlier in the week I read a small think-piece which suggested that for various reasons the Harambe meme was never co-opted by "brands" trying to seem hip, which allowed for a longer lifespan with the Johnniereddits of the world, so the piling-on and over the top one-upping stage of the meme has lasted longer, too.

Personally, not much since has topped the responses in Hood*'s FB post on the subject back in May.

That chart's pretty incredible. I'm a bit skeptical about that top slice though. The median household income in the US is over $50K and we're close to 400 million people ourselves. Add in Western Europe, Japan, South Korea, etc, 300 million seems a bit small.

Or is that dividing by every single person? So a household of 5 - including 3 kids - would divide that $50K to $10K/person?

Update - I remember when I visited China in '97, I believe they said the average income was about $1100/year. Their economy has grown a ton since then, so I'd think that's a lot of Chinese alone in that second slice.

I had met him at a Ron Turner party in SF. And there was a stretch where anytime I was at a hippie-type event, he was there, and somehow he remembered me. I must've said something funny.

Ron is the publisher of Last Gasp books. Robert Crumb and a ton of other cartoonists, Warren Hinkle, one of the Hunter S. Thompson collections. I shared tickets at Candlestick with Ron and Barry Melton, for my hippie boni-fides. My old roommate Jim (the UC Davis pitcher who did not make the bigs) shares with them at the new park, I got my own.

Editor note: Barry Melton was once semi-famous in the rock world as the "Fish" part of Country Joe and the Fish.

Not the same level, but when I was between library jobs out here I worked at a big liquor store. We had an event featuring Avery beer that Adam Avery came to. 2 years later I went to an event at the brewery. I went to shake his hand and he remembered me. The mental capacity of some people amazes me. The guy literally meets thousands of people a year and he remembered my name, and I am literally one of thousands of bearded beer geeks just in Colorado.

CAC is a legit acronym for your 'Common Access Card' (ID card) and is pronounced exactly as you'd expect. Between the name of the base and the fact that you have to show ID before getting on, this is outstanding.
