There was definitely some randomness to it, but I assume that's just for quality control testing. Give it to a wide array of users and make sure there are no issues.

I'm sure. The weird thing was that, for several hours yesterday, I was "downgraded" to 140 after being at 280 for however long. I was responding to a tweet and noticed the circle for 280 had reverted to the character countdown of 140.

The left-leaning politics types I follow on Twitter are way too into Weird Twitter. I got so sick of seeing Dril tweets that I just started muting or blocking anyone who showed up in my feed with a Dril meme. I did the same with anyone who posted a Simpsons meme. Those are somehow ubiquitous among 30-somethings who Tweet about poltics.
