i believe so. Who would be on this list of possible future unanimous selections?

Cabrera
Ichiro
Pujols
Trout
Kershaw
Cabrera has legal issues with alcohol and a messy divorce, as well as his decline (and he's got four(?) years left to further be mediocre). Ichiro began his career overseas. Pujols went in the tank with age and there were mumbles about his age when he was young.

Don't put it past one guy to not vote for anyone for a dumb reason, especially because "getting in the first-time on the ballot" is treated like a special thing, let alone "unanimous".

If I had to bet on one active player, it would be Verlander.

Voters who check Vizquel but not Andrew and/or Rolen are going to give me an aneurysm.

Looks like Marvin Miller gets another stoppage.

( I don’t actually recall how much he had to do with stoppages)

Now seeing I got autocorrected off Andruw above which is far more humiliating to me than any there/their/they’re could ever be.

I remember from my copy of Ball Four that the players came close to striking in 1969. They actually did strike for a few games in 1972.

But it would have been a great joke if he was the guy in the nineties I think we can all agree

This fucking guy is still going to go first ballot despite borderline stats because he was such a nice guy and 20 years from now people will question what the fuck happened with the sportswriters of the time.

I guess it makes me a hypocrite that I’d vote for Bonds and Manny, but not Schilling or Clemens, just out of spite.

This statement probably has 35% less spite than the ballot of the average voter aged 52 and up.

Delaware, can you give me a comparison of Buerhle vs. Pettitttte? I find them very similar, and would probably put them both just short. Curious of your thoughts.

Did I never response here? I thought I did. It was along the lines of "Buehrle's career feels like Pettitte's career minus the top peaks". I think I had numbers too.

Bigger deal: Dick Allen died today and was probably the best player not in the HoF without "cause". I'm sure the vet committee will put him in now that he isn't around to enjoy it. Fucking shit.

Dick Allen (or, Richie Allen, as I first knew of him) was really a stud player. I think the reason that he isn't in the Hall is that he was kind of a weird guy, and more likely, he was a black man who didn't give a shit about playing the nice PR game for the white folks.

RIP

NBC national news had one of those “In Remembrance” things about celebrities who died in 2020 and they listed every MLB HoFer who died including Phil Niekro from a few days ago but didn’t include Al Kaline. That shit shouldn’t make me mad but it does.

Why shouldn’t it make you mad? The secondary story after celebrity deaths are the # of MLB HOFers who passed away. Kaline was one of them.

Judge: I’ll allow it.

Yeah, I’d add Abreu and Pettitte and maybe Hudson or Buerhle to make sure they carry over.

It’s weird his BBWAA number is 302 now that he lives in Delaware.

If they only did like say Bob Gibson and Seaver or something I’d say, “eh, can’t include everyone” but when you list literally every single one except Kaline (they did them 3 at a time) it pisses me off.

He lost me when he acknowledged Manny’s two suspensions, but screw it, it’s not like they’re serving lifetime bans, amirite?

But then chose to breakdown Sammy Sosa’s career into peak productive era and meh era to justify leaving him off the ballot.

609 home runs is a HOF career, period.

That's how many Palmeiro has, and he was objectively a better hitter over his career than Sosa.

Right. I was pointing out the inconsistency in Rosecrans’ approach to his ballot.

I mean, regardless of our positions on PED users who were caught (or not), perjuring themselves about PED usage on the floor of the United States House of Representatives etc., you can question the approach of a writer who goes out of his way to separate Manny Ramirez from his PED usage and multiple suspensions, yet scrutinize Sosa’s 609 HRs because he hit too many of them in too short of a timespan. That’s...interesting.

For the record: let ‘em all in, but tell the whole story.
