I think that's incomplete. Ball cant touch the ground in the process of the catch.

why wasn't a dallas coach assigned to dez with the purpose of keeping him from coming onto the field to argue a call by the official?

how does joe buck think there is any comparison whatsoever between the picked up flag and the reversal of the call in this game? (besides the fact that joe buck is a douche.) one was a proper application of the rules, the other was a fucking travesty of officiating.

and bronto, there should be zero discussion about today's call.

eta: about the rule, sure. but not about the call.

The discussion will center around the rule itself this time.

And I'm not specifically referencing here, rather the dominant takeaway from the weekend.

He didn't take several steps or even turn his body he fell right away and hit the ground. Not a football move.

He didn't need to stretch, he just needed to make the catch. Although I understand that it's human instinct to try and stretch for the TD.

I thought the call was right, per the stupid rules.

In other news, Chris Christie has ordered all bridges closed in the cities where the referees live.

But if he stretched out 4 more inches its a touchdown, right?

Oh I did too. Once GB challenged I knew it'd be incomplete.

They ruled he wasn't stretching for the goal line because his arms were already stretched when he caught the ball. So it was still a continuous motion. If he had caught it, pulled it into his body and then stretch for the end zone, that's fine.

The rule is very strict and it was a straightforward decision made quickly by both Perreira in Fox Booth and in NY.

Nope it's the same because Bryant is not a runner yet.

I knew immediately it'd be overturned. They've been overturning it for years. Despite what Brian will lead you to believe, they were making that call on people well before Calvin Johnson.

That was a challenge by Green Bay. Had McCarthy not challenged, it would have been first and goal. There would have been nothing from a main officiating office to do anything. The booth reviews come from an official upstairs at the game, I believe.

If that ball isn't bobbled and literally out of his hands while he was lying on his back in the end zone, I bet that would get ruled a catch.

I'm hardly the only person who calls that the "Calvin Johnson Rule". But yeah, I knew it was going to be overturned as well. It was the right call. (At least if they're going to enforce the rules consistently....which is not a given with the NFL.)
