To each his own, I guess.
Yeh. I was just going to post that Rushmore is my favorite Anderson movie.

Whiplash was brutally good. Hard to watch, but holy hell, a great film.

Sure - PM me your winners in the following categories:

Best Picture
Director
Lead Actor
Supporting Actor
Lead Actress
Supporting Actress
Animated Film
Cinematography
Costume Design
Documentary
Film Editing
Foreign Language Film
Makeup & Hairstyling
Original Score
Original Song
Production Design
Sound Editing
Sound Mixing
Visual Effects
Adapted Screenplay
Original Screenplay

That should be enough categories where we won't have any ties. I'll PM my answers to THC to prove I don't cheat. Have your answers in by 7:30 EST on Sunday, but I may not have full results til Monday afternoon, depending on whether I go to my friend's house to watch like normal (weather here could scrap that plan).

I was impressed. Simmons should be up for Best Actor and not Supporting. Real solid flick.

Boyhood was...well about 45 minutes too long, but it was really ambitious so I give it a pass. Strong. You could definitely tell the real actors from the kids. I thought Hawke was excellent. I don't get the Arquette love. She was solid, but I wasn't agog.

I made my picks but not gonna type them. people magazine ballot. you'll have to trust me...some basics

Birdman
Linklater (Splitting directing and Picture...could actually see this going either way btu I think it will be a split decision..and the time it took to do this one makes it a more impressive directing achievement IMO)
Keaton (My personal pick, but Redmayne was excellent in a role that is oscar baity - British and he plays disabled)
Moore (Haven't seen it, too much buzz to discount)
Simmons (Outstanding)
Arquette (Would prefer Stone or Knightley)
Score:Theory of Everything
Song: Glory
Animated short: Feast

Blarg. I'll post a pic of the ballot.

They let Glenn Greenwald into the country. Let's see if they let him out.

AB, are you gonna outscore Neil Patrick Harris?

Gaga needs more autotune. I like the girl, but that was hideous.

ETA: Come on, Julie; show her how it's done, damaged vocal cord and all.

I can't say for sure but the buzz is that she was tremendous. Pike was just playing pver te top and jones was solid if not spectacular. Didnt see other two.

She is routinely tremendous, so I expect that.

Much more so than most years, the show tonight makes me want to see many of these movies. I had no idea the story of Alan Turing was made into a big movie.

I've never seen such a funny bit fall so flat. I think that is hilarious; the room not so much.

Hit last two for 15/24.

Imitation game was a movie I expected little from but was probably my second favorite behind birdman.

Didn't realize innaritiu did babel and biutiful. Both solid movies. Knew he did 21 grams but that dude is clearly talented.

Year in, year out, the surest way to win a best actor Oscar is to portray a disabled person.

Eddie Redmayne - check.
Julianne Moore - check.

Hung out with the women folks and watched the awards even though I've really only seen a couple of the movies mentioned.

Still, easily won the small Oscar pool. And as easy as it is to pick actors who portray people with health issues, that scene of Julianne Moore made my blood chill. She may be great in the movie, but there is no way I will ever watch that particular film. Life's too short to spend a couple of hours feeling like crap.

For the Official Swamp Contest you had made 21 predictions - I got 11 and THC got 3 correct. With only the categories of AB's 8 picks (we didn't do short animated) the standings were AB 6, Bensell 5 and THC 3.

I really liked the opening number but much of the telecast seemed forced. It was not as good as I expected it to be with NPH as the host.

The Czech version of the Oscars was held on the weekend, and featured an appearance by Jim Carrey.

Only, it wasn't really Jim Carrey. (Check out the clip!)
