Dave Edmunds and Rockpile (with Nick Lowe) cover a great Elvis Costello song... what could be better?

Re: Old Timey Music for Howard and DC
Nice! I loved Dave Edmunds, Nick Lowe and Rockpile. Terry Williams became Dire Straits’ drummer and Billy Brenner joined The Pretenders for a bit.

My favorite Cat Stevens. Good song for a melancholy Wednesday.

This works for me.
We had Teaser and the Firecat on 8-track growing up.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Boy with the Moon and the Star on His Head is my jam from Catch Bull at 4. I have early memories of my brother learning to play the guitar and singing Moonshadow over and over, the fam was big into the pop-folk in the 70s.

It's been about 10 years since I bought Moving Pictures on CD from a library book sale after hearing some you guys going on about Rush. To this day, I still haven't listened to it yet, but I'm going to! I think it's in my desk drawer, but I don't have any way to play a CD. I also bought the Afghan Whigs album that DSafe(?) had as his avatar at one time, never listened to that one either.

Though I am more of a 2112 (obviously), Caress of Steel and A Farewell to Kings guy.

We played that album on my drive from Seattle to SLC with my son last week. I’d forgotten just how great it was.

How do you all get your death notices since I left?

The motorcycle was a nice hat tip to the professor.

What a shitty fucking day.
But late afternoon saw an improvement, made a good dinner, edibles kicked in and YES!

The Raspberries (featuring future yacht rock star Eric Carmen on vocals) on The Mike Douglas Show (afternoon talk show). Other guests are Billie Jean King and Joe Namath. (At the end of the song, the band expresses admiration for Billie Jean; Joe expresses admiration for band's clothes...)

Bingeing The Impressions and Curtis Mayfield today.
He definitely isn't an unknown, but usually left out of the conversation when people talk about the all-time greats. And he definitely was.

Re: Old Timey Music for Howard and DC
Great song - Robin Hitchcock on lead vocal. Uncle Tupelo did a great cover of it, too.
Surprising trivia time: Kimberley Rew, the guitarist for The Soft Boys, was also a founding member and the lead guitarist for Katrina and the Waves (famous for “Walking on Sunshine”.)
Here’s the UT cover:

Hadn't ever listened to them, they were part of my Friday catchup to 1001 albums. Very REM/90s alt action with a wee bit of neo-psych mixed in. I really enjoyed it.

Hey Rush!
1) Ian McDonald passed away
2) How the hell have you not listened to Uncle Tupelo before tonight?

Re: Old Timey Music for Howard and DC
1. More into the Canterbury Scene (Hatfield, Caravan, Steve Hillage, etc.) than Crimson.
2. Not UT, but rather Soft Boys that I hadn't heard, and as far as Tupelo goes nothing has grabbed me but I've not turned them off.

A band I'd forgotten about. Time to reacquaint myself.

This is pretty great.
listen as you sip the Sunday morning coffee and look wistfully over the lawn covered in snow and think of how much of a bitch it'll be to mow in 5 months.

I finished Robbie Robertson’s memoir Testimony yesterday and just felt the need to post here that The Band is amazing. I nearly did Up On Cripple Creek at karaoke last night.
well this is gonna be someone's new signature - bronto
Re: Old Timey Music for Howard and DC
Giff, Now, you should read Levon Helm’s memoir, This Wheel’s on Fire. He has some pretty scathing remarks about Robbie Robertson. Among other things, he accuses him of stealing his (and other Band members’) songwriting credits and royalties.
But, in any case, The Band had many great songs. Here’s an underrated gem:

Such an underappreciated genre (unless you're trying to buy some on vinyl.)
