Boy, Love is an old band you don’t hear about much. They do occasionally play them on Little Steven’s Underground Garage.

Alone Again, Or is a good song.

Evidently, they were "bigger than the Doors" in LA but Arthur Lee didn't want to tour.

So, I’m sure some of you are familiar with the story of the New York Dolls. Early 70’s glam and proto-punk rock. More about attitude, style and showmanship than much in the way of musicianship. Critics and fans either loved them or hated them - no in-between. I was a fan and have their two original albums. Bad boys flamed out quickly - three members died of drug OD’s, but they are legends. I just watched a great documentary on Kanopy about their oddball bass player, Arthur “Killer” Kane. Titled New York Doll.

Good to see that a song that came out while I was in college qualifies as "old timey".

When they have been around long enough to go into the Rock Hall then it is old timey, no matter how much we don't want it to be.

A sure sign of getting old (er) is when the music you liked in your youth is classified as "retro."

Just wait until you hear songs you used to party to playing in the grocery store while you shop.

I am unfamiliar with The Spinners, and Zevon is OLI for me, but the rest of this list seems like it should be in or should have already been in.

Maiden should've been in a long time ago. Same with Cyndi Lauper & Warren Zevon.

But then again, there are so many alternative bands that I feel are deserving that won't ever be given the time of day. The Pixies, They Might Be Giants, James, Sonic Youth, Television, XTC, Blur, Tragically Hip, Wilco, etc...

But I don't wanna get pissed off though so I'll stop.

Most of the names on that list seem like "new" artists to me.

Yeah, for the most part, but I'm pretty sure several of them have been making (or made) music for over 25 years, which I think is the criteria cut off. But maybe there's a max number each year. Guys, I'm really half assing this right now.

Perfect song?

And I read this week that Billy Joel wrote a letter to the hall or committee or whatever imploring them to finally nominate Zevon, which is great.

Spinners and New Order are the only performers on that list that I still listen to.

but Warren Zevon should be in there. Hell, Donovan's in the Hall of Fame. It really is a pretty low bar.

The J. Geils Band should be in. They had a great run in the 70s and early 80s.

I just meant I stopped paying attention to music 20+ years ago, so the White Stripes was one of the last "new" bands I listened to. I was into Elephant when it came out in 2003. Years later borrowed and put Get Behind me Satan on my iPod (came out in 2005). I still think of that as their new album I haven't gotten into yet.

I think anyone in that list is worthy, as well as a bunch that EnochRoot listed. I just came here to say that George Michael came up in conversation with me and my kids a week ago, and I remembered how messed up how much crap he got for being gay and needing to hide it just because it was the 80s. It’s really too bad, because he comes along 30 years later it isn’t even notable.
