. . . it is because you registered ever-so-slightly before the forum software was configured. That's my fault. I posted the URL over on Bugaloo, went off and made tea, remembered (oh damn!) to turn off a couple of settings. And then I immediately corrected those.

If you are getting that message, you have two options. You could keep using that account (which will both you and me nuts) or you could forget about it and start a new one. No new accounts get the "This post is waiting for approval" delay.

That delay is built in as an anti-troll measure, really. Once someone gains the trust of the community it gets lifted. Typically after 40 posts (that may be the default). Otherwise someone could simply register and immediately start posting Justin Beeeeeber pictures.

But since these are all test accounts, no great loss, right?

Meanwhile, I'll "approve" anything I see that is pending.

Once we have every Swamper on board over here, we can consider what to do about leaving registration turned ON. I'm all for it (for now) unless it starts to become a problem.

ALSO:

I'd like to leave this phpBB forum in a "beta testing" stage for a day or two before I screw with connecting older databases to it. Couple of reasons. One, I am pretty sure vBulletin's brilliant new vb5 software did something to the databases to "customize" them for vb5 and I'm going to have to see if I can roll them back (and then merge them) to undo whatever damage vb5 did.

And . . . I'd really like you guys to use this as you normally would for a day or two so I can observe the software and server tolerance. So far so good but I want to see how it handles a typical day at The Swamp.

well, not quite immediately. this was my fault. scottie was on the phone with me, and he was distracted by my yammering for several minutes before correcting these settings. this moderation requirement affected the first test account i created, but not the second.

let's see if i can post w/o moderation under this name.

again, i say, it ain't worth the aggravation. it works fine for all subsequent users; just two, maybe three users who registered within that tiny time frame (mine, rex and keg).

Dammit. The settings are all correct. But it goes back to what we talked about last night. The account was registered in that brief little window between the forum going live and the final adjustments.

That's my fault for posting the URL a bit prematurely. Hey, I was tired and thought it was ready; it was a long day with this thing!

Anyway. If ANYONE experiences the "waiting for approval" message, please report it straightaway. Thanks.
