Second place
When I was typing up the Alex Rodriguez post/thread, I realized that I might be the Swamp's second-biggest A-Rod apologist, behind Mister Dave. This isn't something to brag about. I'm also probably the second-biggest Billy Joel fan, behind AB. Again, the merits of Joel fandom are dubious.
I know that I am the biggest or the best or the most something-or-other in various things here in the Swamp: some good, some neutral, many bad. But in the A-Rod and Joel categories, I have a clear rival.
How about you, Swamp? Is there a Swamper who you want to see taken out so that you could be the Top Dog?

I hope ARod hits 800 HRs.
I'm probably the number 1 Josh Gordon apologist in here.
Bronto would totally have me taken out so he can claim silkiest biceps.

Sounds like this also makes you the second most logical swamper.bapo! wrote:When I was typing up the Alex Rodriguez post/thread, I realized that I might be the Swamp's second-biggest A-Rod apologist, behind Mister Dave.

I'll accept that. Logical/clinical/analytical in my sports fandom, hyper-emotional in all other aspects of my life.mister d wrote:Sounds like this also makes you the second most logical swamper.bapo! wrote:When I was typing up the Alex Rodriguez post/thread, I realized that I might be the Swamp's second-biggest A-Rod apologist, behind Mister Dave.
Re: Second place
Sounds like neither Shirley nor DiS made a power move today towards the goal of being the unquestioned #1 Swamp Dave.

I might be the #2 Josh Gordon apologist. I tried to temper my defense to prove to myself that I wasn't just swayed by Fantasy implications. Now that I know I'm not keeping him, I actually feel stronger that the NFL is fucking him over unnecessarily.
I think I am in the lead for douchiest in the Scotch thread. I don't get to talk scotch with anyone, and I occasionally read super-douchy website reviews and discussions. Plus, when I forget what I thought of a Scotch or beer, I can come back here and look. I can't get myself to post on the Beer Advocate site.

Recently I'll put myself up for biggest bowling snob in here. Come at me Sabo.

Yeah, but being a snob at something means you're at least competent at that thing. I still have a ways to go to be merely competent.BSF21 wrote:Recently I'll put myself up for biggest bowling snob in here. Come at me Sabo.

I was going to suggest that we join and start posting. We could wreck that league together, as Johnny Manziel would say. But the sheer size of that place scares me. That, and the fact that it's a single-subject forum, which fosters unhealthy levels of obsession. (And morning drinking.) I do enjoy browsing the threads over there, but I don't want to be Anonymous Beer Fan #2416. I'd rather stay here, secure in my knowledge that I'm the 4th most knowledgeable and 8th douchiest beer geek in the Swamp.syb wrote:I can't get myself to post on the Beer Advocate site.

There's a "Top Second Banana" bracket on Grantland that started today. David Spade v. Beavis is being highlighted on Twitter on the moment.

Ah, gotcha. I hadn't made the rounds yet, but I see it now. Cute idea, but I usually (always) skip those Grantland brackets.Ryan wrote:There's a "Top Second Banana" bracket on Grantland that started today. David Spade v. Beavis is being highlighted on Twitter on the moment.

Re: Second place
I just recently started occasionally browsing the BA threads. Typically a bunch of basement dwellers bragging that they "only" got 4 cases of KBS this year. "So bummed. I was second in line, punched an 87 year old woman in the face when the door open, and bought all 4 cases, leaving nothing for the other 100 people standing in line since 10:00 pm the night before. Sux." I do see Fluff's posts all over the place, though. I do like reading threads where brewers respond to comments and suggestions within the thread. Sixpoint is especially active, and has be very interested in trying Beast Mode. I have yet to see it, despite Sixpoint being in every store. I don't see myself ever posting a review. I can't get into pontificating about the nose, legs, appearance, lacing... of a beer. What drives me nuts is when people have to describe the glass they drank it out of. Style of glass (pint, tulip, chalice etc...) is one thing, but does anyone really care that it is a Chimay chalice, or a BCBC snifter? Fuck off.bapo! wrote:I was going to suggest that we join and start posting. We could wreck that league together, as Johnny Manziel would say. But the sheer size of that place scares me. Re: Second place
The trick to posting on BA is to find a way to weave the phrase "hints of rose hips and coriander" into each review.

Re: Second place
if i still lived in/near Boston I think at this point i might actually have purchased an A-Rod shirtsey for this season.
I did receive Billy Joel albums for my birthday twice as a kid, so i'm not sure where that puts me in the rankings (52nd St / Glass Houses). I'm still low but if there's any "1980 Division" then I am champ.
does anyone else who otherwise does drink alcohol really really dislike beer? I may be first or second at worst on that dubious list?
also pie. Pie fucking blows. who tops me here? it sucks and then when you're done with it it sucks some more.

I only like certain pies - Pecan and Apple Pie A La Mode are about it.
I do love me some cobblers, which is basically pie made by people without round pans, though.

Re: Second place
What's that pie called where you bake a bunch of cake batter in a cake pan and then put, like, cake-style frosting on it? My wife does that for birthdays in our family and that's some good fucking pie.
