I feel like spell-check/assist has gotten worse (or I guess I can holdout for gotten better but I somehow haven’t taken advantage) since my iPhone did the major iOS update the other day.

I really don’t think it’s just me.
Just had my first apple store experience. My oldest saved up for a new iPhone and Christmas got her to her needed total. We were done in about an hour, which would be great but for the 30 minutes or so where they seemingly forgot about us.

If you're a Fi guy and want a free Google Mini you can get one via the Fi app until tomorrow. The "Free Gift" is listed at the top of the app, just click through.

Thinking about migrating from an Iphone 8 to a Samsung.
Anyone have an android they love? I'm looking at the S20FE but I know nothing. Its either that or be beholden to apple for another 2-3 years.

I've been generally happy with the Pixels (1, 2, and 3) that I've had since moving away from Apple. My wife has had less success with her Pixels. I've been very happy with Google Fi service. I can send you a code for that if you move carriers.
Until everything is less insane, I'm mixing weed with wine.
Re: Phones & Cases And Such
I have a pixel I bought straight from the Googles. Huge fan because it has no carrier garbage on it. Just plain Android. It also gets updates very quickly. I am running on the Sprint network because I am grandfathered into a pretty great plan with unlimited data, hotspot, etc.

Re: Phones & Cases And Such
I'm in a near-panic now because I have found out that MotionX-GPS has been removed from the iPhone App Store and is basically being discontinued.
This was one of the first apps I ever downloaded and the only one I spent real money on (ten bucks). All my hiking and driving routes and waypoints are on it. I use it whenever I go exploring the dirt roads and "roads" of the mountains or desert.
Does anyone know of another good GPS navigation app that works for hiking/biking and exploration driving, both for navigation and also for saving routes and waypoints?

And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I personally tend to stay away from Samsung due to bloatware. I'll never buy a phone from a carrier because of it (mine is T Mobile) and have latched onto OnePlus as my preferred brand.
My last 4 cell phones have been the 8T, 6, Nexus 6, Nexus 5. Prior to that it was an LG phone I had in Korea.
Whatever phone you get, make sure it's 5G:

I might wait until there's some holiday deals coming up and then I can take it to Verizon and have them swap the sims for me right?
Would be my first time buying one not from the carrier itself. How much bloat is on a Samsung? I'm also thinking about a googlephone. I just want something that plays nice with my googlecontacts for work. If it can run about 4 other aps I'm good with it. I don't need a ton.
I essentially need:
1) battery life
2) ease of sync to google
3) facebook/twitter
4) podcast ap/ amazon music/ spotify
5) sportsbook

Moto g power. It's fine. was $99 from google fi but no likey google fi. Had motorola before that and nexus the several before that. All solid and fine. All those in particular have less bloatware because sold through Google.
Re: Phones & Cases And Such
I NEEDED a new phone and couldn't wait for the 5Gs to drop so I bought a Pixel4a for like 350$. They are Google phones so super easy to sync, I've had good battery life, though I haven't really really tested as I am not living my "normal" life. I use PocketCast and Spotify easily (I am sure Amazon Music works fine, I use Prime Video easily.) Every phone is going to be good with Twitter and Facebook. The one qualm I have is that the fingerprint unlock is on the back so when I have it docked in the car I have to use my pin to unlock.BSF21 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 1:18 pm I might wait until there's some holiday deals coming up and then I can take it to Verizon and have them swap the sims for me right?

I think that phone choice has a lot to do with how you like the UI and general build of the phone (does it have a headphone jack, does it wirelessly charge that sort of thing) and then the extra stuff. Do you take a lot of pictures? Do you need extra storage for music/pictures/documents?

If I stay with Iphone I probably get some airpods that will be great, but if not, does anyone have a great set of wireless buds they use with an android? I'm thinking about trying some Raycons, but anything like an airpod knockoff (with a charging case, etc) would be great.

For headphones...don't buy expensive ones. Anker makes a great pair. I have bought expensive ones that die from exercise (including the one that USA triathlon recommends). The ones I love right now are the Sound Core Liberty Neo. They are coated in sweat proof stuff, sound good, and mic pics up well. They are also on sale on Amazon frequently.

Re: Phones & Cases And Such
I'm due for a new phone (currently have a five year old Moto Z Force). Wife is harping on me to get an iPhone plus some iPhone users appear to have problems texting me...their texts don't come through.
That being said I'd like to get a smaller phone since I don't use my phone for much other that reading the occasional article, random cat video and texting (I use a tablet for daily time-wasters like YouTube/Facebook, Twitter, etc). The most important thing to me is 1) battery life and then 2) speed/storage. I've been on Android for years and only had Motorola's so I would be interested in trying something new. I've seen the posts about the Pixels in this thread as well as the positives on the One Plus's.
As of right now I'm torn between the Pixel 5 and the iPhone 12 mini. Any opinions on those two and/or any other suggestions?

What about the Pixel 4a 5G?
https://www.engadget.com/pixel-4a-5g-re ... 53038.html
Personally, I'll always stan for OnePlus. The latest iteration, the 8T, has really good battery life and I can go from 0 to 100 battery charger in 39 minutes with their Warp Charge. It's also a 5G phone. I couldn't give a shit less about the sub par camera (according to the experts) and I'm not too bent out of shape over losing the headphone jack after all. (OnePlus buds aren't too bad, but I have narrow ear canals and, gross as it sounds, waxy ears. So if the bud doesn't have silicone tips, it's not good for me.)
I'd start at www.gsmarena.com and compare everything and then make a selection based on your preference.
Also, Black Friday is around the corner, so expect deals. And always watch MKBHD on YouTube for excellent reviews.

Re: Phones & Cases And Such
I got the current iPhone SE late in the summer when my 4+ year-old SE didn't want to hold/couldn't take a charge anymore. It's relatively small (looks like the display area is smaller than the 12 mini?) and maybe I'm still comparing it to the performance of my old phone but the battery has been pretty amazing. I can go for an hour run with a run-tracker app and downloaded music streaming to bluetooth headphones and be in the upper 90s when I return. It looks older than the other current models (still has a dedicated home button) but I'd recommend it.

Re: Phones & Cases And Such
I'm still rocking the iPhone6S and either need a new battery or a new phone. My understanding is the SE is just the 6 with updates components. My battery started dying while saying it was charging in the car. Only had Google maps running, and it dropped from 95% when I left the house, to 30% in about 10 minutes. Last night it was on the charger over night, woke up with 6% battery while it had the charging symbol. It'll go days with normal battery drain, then pull this as soon as I think it's working. My son's 6S battery completely died back in March, wouldn't take a charge at all. Dropped it off at a repair shop, they replaced the battery for $50 and it's worked great. I really don't care about having a better phone, so I might just replace the battery.rass wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 7:43 am I got the current iPhone SE late in the summer when my 4+ year-old SE didn't want to hold/couldn't take a charge anymore. Yes on the new SE. I think it's just an old 6 on the outside.
A friend of mine and my boss got the battery on their older SEs replaced and said it worked great. And while I had some of the same oddities with the battery performance you described, I think there was something wrong with the port on mine where I had a shit of a time just getting it to start to charge. So I gave up and upgraded.

SEs here too. We went from the 7(?) to the SE so it was basically the same phone but with a battery that worked again.
