Sorry. In more ways than one.sancarlos wrote:This is the first time I've ever said this: Go, Duke and Kentucky! Because, if they both win, I win all three pools I'm in (including the Swamp pool.)

It's the sixth version of The Swamp. What could possibly go wrong?

How are all the new Wisconsin fans going to feel when they get their ass kicked by a different group of one and dones on Monday?

If it's the latter, let's talk about setting up a new hedge fun around your astonishing skills. Or at least setting you up in Brian's neighborhood, with a T1 line and a set of trusted runners.
Re: 2015 NCAA Tournament Thread
I think most would feel pretty good, even so. Especially the ones who grew up there. Modest midwesterners and all. Also, they are killing betting pools, all around the world. Ironically, all but the ones based in Wisconsin.Joe K wrote:How are all the new Wisconsin fans going to feel when they get their ass kicked by a different group of one and dones on Monday?
When is the last time Wisconsin even made the finals? I'm sure it has not been in my lifetime, as the Wisconsin roots on my mothers' side makes me sensitive to this.

Hope the Cavs/LeBron get their wish and he jumps skip to the NBA. So glad to see him lose. Very good game, and Towns is a beast. This was the first full Kentucky game I had watched all season. Towns should have had the ball in his hand every time down the court.brian wrote:John Calipari. Most overrated coach in history?

The sad/funny thing here is seeing all these people with obviously meager incomes wandering around aimlessly after the game. Gonna be a long weekend fuckos.

1941 they won it all. 39-34 over Washington State. Bunch of white guys, no doubt.

I suggested to a friend of mine in Indy to score some strange from the years of Kentucky fans or the jubilation of Wisconsin. He claimed to be sick, and I told him to fuck off and get out there. I have to live vicariously through him.

Perhaps even both sides. In the entire tournament. That was before blacks learned to jump so good, though it was after they developed excellent rhythm.howard wrote:1941 they won it all. 39-34 over Washington State. Bunch of white guys, no doubt.

Re: 2015 NCAA Tournament Thread
I think Duke is going to win surprisingly easily tomorrow night. They've cruised through the tournament so far, and if Winslow and Okafor can even play Kaminsky and Dekker to a draw, I think Duke has a big advantage in guard play. And Winslow is pretty much the ideal player to match up with Dekker.Rex wrote:Rex wrote:It's kind of crazy that neither this Wisconsin team nor this Duke team will win the national title. Suck it Cal....
I think it should be a pretty evenly matched game tomorrow night. I'll certainly be pulling for Bucky.

I really thought UK was going to win when they came back to take the lead with 5 or 6 minutes left, but a bunch of wasted possessions and a bullshit no call on the shot clock violation let Wisconsin win it. They deserve all the credit and I hope they kick the shit out of Duke tonight.

For future consideration: If Duke loses because the guy with the cool girl's name won't look for better players, will he get the same treatment Grant got after Notre Dame's loss?

I'm probably one of the only Kentucky fans who was rooting for Duke to win tonight, and that game played out almost exactly how I was hoping it would. After seeing how much glee all the Kentucky haters took in Wisconsin winning on Saturday, I enjoyed seeing them lose a game where 88% of Duke's points came from freshmen McDonald's All-Americans.
Re: 2015 NCAA Tournament Thread
I bet all my money on Duke so I'm good. I don't have allegiance beyond my money usually and this tournament was a good investment.

Re: 2015 NCAA Tournament Thread
Bo Ryan whining about "rent a players" and the officiating post-game was not a good look. Yeah, the two missed out of bounds calls late were harsh, but Wisconsin also benefited from Okafor and Winslow being in foul trouble for most of that game.

Yeah, I was surprised and disappointed with Ryan. I get that right after a game is an emotional time, but he's been around the block enough times that I think he knows how to handle himself.Joe K wrote:Bo Ryan whining about "rent a players" and the officiating post-game was not a good look. Yes, the refs missed two calls late in that game - and I can't understand how they missed the one where they watched the replay over and over - but those weren't even the calls he whined about. Somehow the Big Ten coach thought the finesse ACC team was too physical?

How did that whole using a center thing work out for Duke? The Sybian wrote:Too Long; Not Going to Watch.Rex wrote:Yes, that's normal. When Duke is eliminated in a game where Okafor scores 30, you'll see why.
I'd rather someone spoon feed me. Does this mean an enormous glut of talent at center for the future of the NBA, or are more Euros and Soutg American centers going to emerge? This whole no center thing is blowing my mind.
Serious question, but with teams playing 3 guards and no center, why do the scores seem so much lower than they did 10 or 20 years ago?

Possessions per game are at an all time low, defense is allowed to be played quite physically and other factorsThe Sybian wrote:How did that whole using a center thing work out for Duke? The Sybian wrote:Too Long; Not Going to Watch.Rex wrote:Yes, that's normal. Re: 2015 NCAA Tournament Thread
It's probably not a coincidence that Okafar had a pretty lousy tournament and yet Duke played their best ball of the year. The Sybian wrote:How did that whole using a center thing work out for Duke?

Lower scores are mostly due to trends - slow play is in these days - and increasing focus on defense. Also offensive efficiency. Teams want to be efficient (offensively and defensively), which often means slowing down a bit and being more careful. This produces fewer possessions and that's really really what's driving the lower scores.
I think you'll probably start to see a rise in teams bucking the trends and going the other way. So few teams press now that the ones that do cause a lot of problems. It's just that those teams generally get killed by the really good teams who play efficiently.
Totally Kafkaesque

Duke played better with Okafor on the bench than in the game, which was actually the pattern for most of the season.

Re: 2015 NCAA Tournament Thread
I also think it is easier from a recruiting standpoint (or "better" to remain on more equal footing with their competition) for coaches to get greater athletes and coach them on defense while hoping they improve on offense as opposed to getting better basketball players who cannot quite compete athletically. I think defensive scheme is often used to overcome deficiencies on offense by keeping the score down. And with the "can't call every foul" defense allowed to flourish, why not?Shirley wrote:It's probably not a coincidence that Okafar had a pretty lousy tournament and yet Duke played their best ball of the year. The Sybian wrote:How did that whole using a center thing work out for Duke?

BTW, why does anyone care what Mark Cuban thinks about college basketball? He doesn't watch it and his only interest is in how it serves as an NBA minor league - so for only about 50-100 or so of the roughly 5,000 players playing D1 ball at any time.
