Oh my, The Donald is so crude! I think he's going to destroy America's tremendously successful foreign policy by hitting on Angela Merkel at the next G6 meeting. That would spell the end of our Syria strategy that has almost come to fruition. Hilary etc.
Re: 2016 Presidential Race
Of course that's scummy. But rich and powerful men get to do things like that and have it go unchecked. And if you can do that and you can brag about it, you're going to. I don't put anything past this guy. He's been in the public consciousness for how long now? I've known about him since I was a kid and I'm 33. If he has a map to a pile of dead hookers I'm not going to be surprised.Steve of phpBB wrote:I dunno. To me the talking about how he just starts kissing them and if you're a star they let you do it is probably the worst part of that.
1) If you're an evangelical Christian, I don't give the slightest fuck about you. Evangelical Christians are disgusting. Mike Pence is one and the words were in all caps on my TV during the Veep debate. Having one's religion as a pre-req for public service is awful. Plus, their outlook on life from their limited and judgmental perspective can go fuck itself.Moreta wrote:I don't think most of the women Trump had any hope of wooing in this election subscribe to any part of the Sex in the City ethos. Try and tell evangelicals (particularly women) that this is just "guy talk" and it simply will not fly.Johnnie wrote:This is nothing. It's only something to the easily offended types.
2) If after, no bullshit, 16 solid months of his baseless, putrid, abhorrent rhetoric *this* years old conversation had in private is what finally breaks your back as an evangelical Christian, you're a worthless human being to begin with. All the shit he's said and things he's done throughout his life that has been rehashed and talked about daily, and it's this? I don't fucking buy it for one second and I care not a fuck about your sudden butthurt.
(When I say "your" I mean in general, not to you specifically, btw. I like you. You're cool. Just want to note that.)
This all being said, burn, baby, burn. Fuck this scumbag.

Re: 2016 Presidential Race
I dunno. You're not wrong of course but if any legitimately evangelical voters could square the circle on Trump obviously having no fucking idea what's in the Bible then I think they can forgive literally just about anything.

But amazingly, it looks like someone at Clinton World Headquarters released this just before the weekend of the 2nd debate - a debate where Trump has called his shot of making Bill Clinton;s sexploits into an issue.

I don't think this latest example of crude behavior by Trump is going to sway any evangelical or otherwise religious voters. If they weren't already swayed - if they hadn't recognized the spots on this leopard before now, then they are already deliberately blind to it.

It's bullshit. Complete and utter bullshit. Kinda like what happened to Donald Sterling. Not exact, but personal, private conversations going public yet again fuck over someone when their public person's should have in the first fucking place.

Re: 2016 Presidential Race
I strongly disagree. I don't think the majority of Trump supporters are voting the economic agenda of Ryan and his ilk. Many of his supporters have no clue or interest in policy. It isn't a reasonable reason, but I think they are most often voting against Hillary Clinton, (often for specious "reasons"). And, secondarily, because of a perception that Trump is "tough", and will somehow reclaim an imagined US superiority in the world. Re: 2016 Presidential Race
There's no reason to believe, from over 40 years of public life, that Trump will serve any master but himself. Nor is there any reason to believe that there will be a coherent ideology behind anything he does. Starting November 9, there will be no need for the Republican Party in his life. All he needs are some loyalists to run the military, and support from state and local police departments.Steve of phpBB wrote:Why not? What would prompt him to either veto a bill passed by the Republican congress or to appoint a complete right wing whack job to the bench?Rex wrote:I have a lot of reasons to oppose a Trump presidency, but one thing I am not worried about is Trump carrying out the GOP agenda as we have known it.

He had a hot mic on a bus with the Access Hollywood guy 11 years ago and this shit drops the same day as a Wikileaks dump with some Hillary Clinton Goldman Sachs speeches. Did he have a reasonable idea that he'd run for president and the mic wasn't hot when he said that shit to Billy Bush?
11 years ago I was deployed to Guam doing some pretty awesome things. And if Ye Olde Swamp ever gets recovered I'm so fucked at whatever job I do after the military -- or hell maybe now!
I'm loving the shitshow. I'm drunk off of popcorn and news consumption. I want him to fry. And ultimately no matter how is best, but this should have happened a dozen times over for just as many reasons. But now the GOP establishment has openly gone at his neck. Now. Fucking cowards.

Yeah, I'd say that it's a small minority of asshole guys who talk like that. I've been in many locker rooms growing up, and have a bunch of guy friends and have certainly been a part of bawdy conversations. That was not a bawdy conversation. It was creepy, rapey, and entitled as fuck.Pruitt wrote:Not to sound like a Romney here, but no, not all guys talk like that.Johnnie wrote: this is how dudes talk in private.

That being said, I completely agree that it took THIS conversation to garner so much "mainstream" avoidance of Trump. Everything else he's said about non-whites, non-handicapped, non-Muslims has been horrible too.

Re: 2016 Presidential Race
man this is everywhere on the news.
It's the Ray Rice Syndrome.
Rice had been suspended 2 games after admitting he punched his wife in the face in an elevator which knocked her out and had him indicted for assault charges. 6 months later an actual video of the incident is released and all of a sudden he has his contract terminated by his team and is then suspended indefinately by the NFL.
What changed? Nothing other than the fact that people now saw what happened instead of hearing/reading about it. It's a really odd thing that happens when actually seeing things/facts as opposed to just knowing them.

There were 5 other people on the bus with him. It was him, in the middle of the day, with people and cameras around.

What do you mean? What I talk about in private with friends? I'm certainly not a man in a position of power that can just grab a girl by the pussy because of that fact. But I certainly will crack jokes or talk about sexual situations or share a photo or link to something sexual. Will I actually act on it? No. And that's probably the difference. He actually tried to sleep with a married woman by buying her furniture. I'd never do that.Brontoburglar wrote:I don't think your sample is in any way representative of the entire population, but what do I know?

It's not about being in a position of power. It's about appreciating the difference between joking about sexual assault, and joking about how you want to fuck a woman. Re: 2016 Presidential Race
Yeah, Johnnie, no. Most grown men over the age of 25 absolutely do not talk like that. Even just among other men. I'm pretty sure the military skews that for you though.
BTW, in defense of DC an Howard up above, my wife makes a lot of the same arguments. No defending of Trump at all, but there's a reasonable case to be made - not one I agree with by the way - that Hillary is just as, or at least nearly as, dangerous as Trump. The frustration my wife feels is that the media criticisms of the two isn't even close to comparable. I brought up HuffPo today (very, very rare for me), and the first 14(!!) stories were about Trump (yes, I get that he's currently in a shitstorm).
I personally find Trump way scarier, but that doesn't mean that Hillary is someone I want to support. I'm voting for her solely because I live in a state where the vote will be close.
(BTW, I suspect that a lot my wife's disdain comes from the constant message that all women MUST vote for Hillary simply because she's a woman.)
