Yeah, the field is set. Tiger's in if he wants/can play. He's a former champion, so he can play for the rest of his life. But it's been a question whether his back will let him.

So can you just like show up on Thursday morning with your green jacket without telling anyone?

I would assume you have to declare your intent to play. And then withdraw if you couldn't. Most of the older guys "retire" at some point and show up for the par 3 (for which any major champion or US or British Amateur champion ever is eligible for life even if you didn't win The Masters) and the festivities but not to play in the tournament. Ben Crenshaw is retiring this year.

I assume Tiger submitted his name to play and is trying to see this week if he can go before next week's tournament.

Once you qualify, you can play Augusta at any point prior to the masters.

The article said that he doesn't have to back out until his tee time (which sounds like no rule at all, since he can always WD after one swing).

I would think that as a practical matter, he wants to tell the officials before they announce the pairings and tee times, which is probably this weekend or Monday.

It's usually Tuesday I think. And yeah, so long as he said he intends to play, he can back out at any time. I feel like Jerloma was wondering if he had to do anything to sign up or just show up Thursday, which isn't the case at all.

I think he's there seeing if his short game is worth a damn on Augusta's greens. If it's anything like it was his last time out he'd be in for a couple of 78s and going home assuming he didn't WD.

yeah the par 3 tourney would be fun with the way he is shooting. Getting out shoot by the caddy's kid would make for great espn coverage

I'm going to assume Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Henrik Stenson and Dustin Johnson will already be taken. If so, then here's a list of players I would consider:

Jimmy Walker
Jason Day
Adam Scott

I have a feeling that this year is going to be won by a middle-tier guy.

I'm off the Jimmy Walker train. Just don't see it.

I can see a Sergio or Paul Casey making noise because no one expects them to do so. Might be a bit rainy later this week, so long straight hitters will have a good go (Which means Mcilroy, too).

Good Putters always matter. So Poulter gets some love.

My pick, however, is Rickie Fowler. Makes the breakthrough! And yeah, i guess that's not really middle-tier.

Fowler is outside the top 10 favorites in Vegas, so perhaps he is mid-tier. May be worth a flier. I'll be bored if it's just Bubba again.

Jimmy Walker was the pick at 6. Stenson still around but he has the flu according to something I think I read online.

Camilo Vilegas just buried one as well. Probably not the same roar as the one for the Golden Bear.

Villegas ended up with TWO during the par 3 contest. Apparently had a hole in one over the weekend, too.

The draft is still finishing up, so Hoffman wasn't exactly an inspired pick.

For the 1000 years I have been watching The Masters, still shocked that they can't come up with a better angle to show where the tee shots on 13 end up when they aren't dead center.

Maybe they should cut down some more trees.
