You're also white, and not that into rap, AFAIK.

I mean I'm kind of into rap, but I guess I really don't know anyone who has got in the game the last few years apparently.

Should've added, over 40. FWIW, I don't think I'm that much younger than you, and I've probably only heard of 10 of them. I bet my kid knows way more of them.

What in the everloving fuck is that?
The guys on the 'All Fantasy Everything' podcast were doing a mailbag episode recently, and one of the questions was: 'What's someone you are listening to currently?' and David Gborie mentioned Ski Mask The Slump God, so I looked him up on spotify.

Let's just say...54 year old white guys in Seattle are not the target demographic.

I just bought literally the last face value ticket available (at least according to LiveNation's website) for Angels and Airwaves in Vegas. That was pretty crazy (I already had a ticket, but once I saw almost all of their shows were selling out decided to take a gamble on being able to flip the extra at a profit. Worst case I probably know a few people who will want to go.)

That’s awesome and holy shit that show was awesome Friday night. Me becoming a Father John Misty fan is one of my more surprising pop culture 180s.

The only group I can recall doing a 180 on (in that direction) is LCD Soundsystem. Man, I used to loathe them.

The GF and I went to a 'Pop-Up' show at a winery tasting room that featured Billy McCarthy, from Pela/Augustines, playing solo and telling stories. Holy crap what a great show. Small room...maybe 50 people there. And then he did the encore out in the parking lot. Amazing...

Looks like I'm going to the Friday Forecastle. The Killers headlining. Other than that, I only know three acts: Chromeo, Portugal, the Man, and Cold War Kids.

Tell me if there's someone I should sneak over and see (note I will probably not be there until 4-5 pm)

I hate Portugal. The Man personally. Judah & The Lion have a couple of good songs but I've not heard anything other than what was on satellite radio.

I don't know anything by Portugal the Man except that one song. I'll check out Chromeo for sure, though.

They're the reverse of Ched + LCD Soundsystem. I thought In the Mountain in the Cloud was solid, the next one was whatever and then holy shit did they commit to sucking.

Judah & The Lion strikes me as one of those bands where I find myself singing a long or just acknowledging the fact I like the song on XM, and then come to find out they're a Christian band of some sort. I'm embarrassed to admit the other two.

Also known as the Ched + Weezer.

I have lots of bands I've abandoned but I can't really think of one I didn't like then really got into. I need to put more work into this.

They both have ridiculous catalogs, but damn if Elton's isn't better by orders of magnitude.

Call me when Elton writes his own lyrics.

Seriously.. you can’t tout Elton John and quote the fucking lyrics.

If you’re able to explain what you did yesterday, you can write at Billy Joel’s level. Everything is fucking literal.

Seriously? What an odd litmus test you have there.

When you quote an Elton John lyric, you’re tacitly acknowledging the involvement of Bernie Taupin. Not unlike you would when you quote a Grateful Dead song, you’re tacitly acknowledging the work of Robert Hunter.

I thought I knew, but now I know that rose trees never grow in New York City...

Billy Joel’s a well-established, philandering ass. He even tells you how much of a chauvinist he is when he sings “She’s Always a Woman to Me”, though he probably isn’t aware enough to realize it. Yeah, you’re the victim, Billy. (O;
