Answer
Category: SPORTS RULES
Clue: THE SYRACUSE OWNER CREATED THIS IN 1954 & IT MAY HAVE HELPED HIS TEAM SUCCEED THE LAKERS AS CHAMPS THE NEXT YEAR

Answer:
What is the 24 second shot clock?
"shot clock" is sufficient for a correct answer.

Now, this clue was chock full of irrelevant information. Because the dominating center George Mikan was the Lakers' star player, I wondered if they were going for the rule changes that widened the 3-second key, or altered goaltending rules, as those would actually affect Mikan's play. I mentally flipped a coin between shot clock and widening the key. And I got lucky. For sports questions on Jeopardy!, gotta keep it simple.

Clue: BORN IN ILLINOIS OF HUGUENOT ANCESTRY, HE WAS EXECUTED IN JUNE 1882, A YEAR AFTER HIS HEINOUS ACT

Answer:
Who was Charles Guiteau?

You gotta know your presidential assassins. There are only four successful ones: John Wilkes Booth/Lincoln 1865; Charles Guiteau/Garfield 1881; Leon Czolgosz/McKinley 1901 and Lee Harvey/JFK 1963.

Here is a Jeopardy hint-for final jeopardy, the correct answer will never be Leon Czolgosz; the judges don't want to have to rule on the spelling errors.

Canada hosted one Summer Games. Maybe they didn't know what a velodrome is? Moose Javians? Come on! The female contestant's name was Victoria, FFS! Not that I knew that one.
