India are quite flawed. They cant hit sixes.
They cant make big totals or chase them down.

I bet Sri Lanka at +160 yesterday because that line did not look right at all given the Windies injuries and seeming lack of interest in playing some of these recent games.

Don't seem to interested in chasing right now, but Gayle is still there

I hate to say it because they're probably as close to a vested rooting interest as I have (hey, the USVI are a part of the West Indies so they're technically an American team!) but this squad doesn't seem to have much heart.

Actually kind of wish the Windies were putting up a better showing because I was hoping to get the Afghanis at good underdog odds for that last game. At this point, I'll be pretty surprised if Afghanistan doesn't win. They're still fighting. The Windies have just quit.

I might to need to take all that back. The Windies really started to turn it on an hour ago and are fighting.

They keep showing her on the broadcast and I guess it should be said if you can't get inspired by Rihanna, then you might not be a man. At least not a straight man.

Cloudflare outage means Sling (as well as most of the apps I need to do my job) are down. Good times.

I don't know if all of Cloudflare's servers are down but the one I'm trying to hit (via Sling, Trello, Hubspot and Slack) is at least. Twitter is blowing up about it. If you're affected, then half of the Internet is down.

So it's two from three for the last two semi-final spots.

I dont think NZ needs to win. They have a far superior NRR.

Seems that way.

New Zealand are not assured of their place in the final four but can feel reasonably comfortable based on their superior net run-rate.

Right. As a result, if it rains all day tomorrow, that would probably see England and New Zealand through.

England looking to post a very big score, 200 up off 31 overs and promoted Buttler up the order.

And now a clatter of wickets 222-4

This chase will be interesting. I like England's chances to keep New Zealand's runs down but it's a manageable number.

They are probably 25 runs short of where they should have been, up to the bowlers now.

NZ probably aren't in danger of ruining their NRR, but they do need to be careful to put up some kind of a decent number today.

Andy Zaltzman, Test Match Special statistician:

Net run rate is leading to matches like this where teams are so worried they'd rather stagger to 200 and not be bowled out. So it's clearly not working.

If you're contesting the tournament like this where each team plays the other once, I fail to see why the tiebreaker shouldn't be head to head result.

ETA: Obviously you'd have to have other tiebreakers in the case of a match not being played or if more than two teams are tied for a spot, but seriously...Pakistan beat New Zealand and if they end up tied in points, NZ goes on because they beat Afghanistan by more runs? That's fucking dumb.

NRR is the second tie break, first in number of wins, that's what did for Sri Lanka

Sure, I can understand that being first tiebreak but H2H should be ahead of NRR. If each team didn't play the other I wouldn't say that but imagine in the NFL if the playoff tie breaker was net points instead of head-to-head for determing a division winner? It would be dumb as hell.

Pakistan will have to just go for broke and try to make 600. Smash from the first ball.

For Pakistan to qualify to the semi-final

Pakistan to beat Bangladesh by 311 runs after posting 350

or

beat Bangladesh by 316 runs after scoring 400

or

beat Bangladesh by 321 runs after scoring 450

If Pakistan bowl first, they will be out of the semi-final race even before the frist ball is bowled at Lord's on Friday.

So first things first they have to win the toss.

If Bangladesh win the toss would they bat first knowing that decision would knock the other team out automatically?

IS that because if you are batting second, you win if you go over the other person's score? Can't keep going?

Right. And that does get calculated into the net run rate tiebreaker if you don't bat all 50 overs, but don't think they could possibly earn enough runs fast enough to offset the difference with New Zealand.

I wouldn't bet my life on it, but I'd bet they'll have a "gentleman's agreement" to let Pakistan bat first regardless of the toss. If the shoe was on the other foot, I imagine the Pakistanis would extend the same courtesy.
