its a generation of people demanding safe spaces....maybe im cynical but asking for a safe space when i was a kid would have gotten you called a pussy. soft was the nicest adjective i had available
I think the safe space thing is a little overblown by outlets like Fox News, who have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

McDonald's restaurants have been "safe places" for as long as I can remember. Fire stations, police stations, etc are often safe places as well. The program started when I was 6, in 1983.

Yep. The only time I thought I "won" something was the year we won the league when I was 12. I still liked getting a trophy the other times.

Some kids start classes at 7:30, and they take an early lunch. They call it brunch to distinguish it from the later lunch.

Yeah, right. They're probably eating avocado toast and drinking mimosas.

I think the issue is calling it "brunch." I've heard other places that take a break around this time of day (mid-morning) and they call it "snack."

Brunch is just an odd turn of phrase to use there.

It sounds like staggered lunch times to me, not 2 meals for each kid. Which would make it weird to call it a snack.

SC you gotta sort this out.

OK, I just asked the wife, who of course was not at all shocked that i don't know how anything works at my daughter's high school. Apparently I was mistaken. Contrary to my previous statement, it is not an early lunch. It is a snack break. A recess. Whatever you want to call it. For some reason, they call it "brunch", despite the fact that the cafeteria is not available until later, at "lunch".

Eta: My wife (after mocking my lack of knowledge), just also clarified that the school doesn't actually have a "cafeteria". This being California, the kids eat their lunches (brought from home) outside 90% of the time, and in the "multi-use room", otherwise. The things you learn two months before your daughter graduates...

Mimosa clearly a given. Are they hipsters (avocado toast) or octogenarians(eggs Benedict)?

I remember school lunch being an absolute atrocity. I changed schools a few times too when I was younger. Every one everywhere was disgusting.

So if these kids are eating decently these days, I'm glad things changed.

Thanks, (Michelle) Obama.

Plus, given how much national shit women have faced for "demanding" safe spaces, I think asking for safe spaces is pretty damned brave.

You're trotting out the old macho thing that makes people who need help not get help because it makes them seem 'weak'.

Shit, TT, didn't you have a pretty bad substance abuse issue at one point? Maybe if you'd found a safe space that could have been averted? Obviously, that's making an assumption, but the point is that the mindset you are displaying is a big reason we are where we are.

TT bringing out the old "Let them eat cake" level of tone deaf. That kid in FL didn't need a safe space either and he took care of his problem.
