Working on the patio of my usual coffee shop and whaddayaknow there's a bomb threat a block away so had to head inside with everyone else. The street they have blocked off is where the downtown police 'precinct' (small office w/ limited staffing) is.

This story broke my heart...

‘I Know She’s Gone, but Why?’: Love and Loss at a Boulder Grocery Store

Teri Leiker and Clint Ponsford shared a love story that began and ended at the grocery store.

They spent more than 30 years working at the same King Soopers supermarket in Boulder, where Ms. Leiker charmed customers with her big laugh and Mr. Ponsford could spot the peaks of the Flatirons when he went outside to wrangle shopping carts. They had both competed in Colorado’s Special Olympics and helped each other get through a lot: deaths, a breakup and the challenges of navigating this world as two people with cognitive disabilities.

About a year and a half ago, their friendship turned into something deeper. They went on karaoke dates. They watched Disney movies that Ms. Leiker adored. On workdays, they would get up at 3:30 a.m. in Ms. Leiker’s condo to make coffee, trade kisses and watch reruns of “Murder, She Wrote” before Mr. Ponsford left for the early shift.

And on March 22, they were both at work when it was all blasted apart.
Fuckers like Ted Cruz and Lauren Boebert should be forced to read that story.

Yea got to go to bed wondering if my best friend was dead last night so that was fun.

Dang BSF, that's some tough shit.

Meanwhile, my fucking piece of shit state is trying to pass a law to allow people to carry without licenses. We've had three of the biggest mass shootings here in the last five years. Fuck these mutherfuckers.

I believe Indiana is debating a similar law this session as well.

Utah has already passed that. And I think TN did as well?

I don't think it will have any affect on mass shootings though, either way.

Probably not mass shootings, just stand-your-ground and road rage type shit. And I'm sure late nights will be more exciting.

Yeah, I'm wondering. Utah's had concealed carry with permits for years, and apparently it's been fine.

Of course, the problem with going from permitted cc to anyone-anytime cc is that you're basically adding the people who were not responsible enough to do what the permit process required.

About the 'good guy with a gun' fallacy...

Warehouse worker: ‘It could have been me’
As four or five more shots went off, the pair spotted another person going into a car and retrieving a gun of their own. Moments later, Bouillat said, that person was on the ground, apparently wounded by the shooter.

Guys who want to play Wild West gunfighter ought to remember that sometimes it’s the “hero” who loses.

I need to hear more details, but pretty sure I am one connection away from the victims. A former co-worker's daughter played basketball with one, and the other is the mother. I'm not 100% sure, but it's looking that way.

ETA: After reading the latest update, it has to be.

Crazy but probably 0.001 of gun murders during same period.
Eta 82/7763 so ten times higher. 1%

.001 of gun murders means a percentage of gun murders. In your scenario, you're off by 100x the amount, not 10x, right?

Others are better at math but 1% = .01 and .001 x 10 = .01 right?

Things are really bad here. No so much the mass shootings as everyday bullshit. Barely noticed the atlanta mass shooting and probably five miles away. But gunshots at night murders down the street and just general brazenness at gas stations and on major thoroughfares like Peachtree Street is unnerving. Used to be that shit was in the hood but it's everywhere now. If you want a reality check download the citizen app. Damn thing lights up like a Christmas tree in the 2 mile radius. Youd almost rather not know.

Theres only one no matter what folks say. Now it does randomly change to Peachtree Road in Buckhead and there are 57 derivations but all slightly distinct.

You used decimals in a sentence where percentages are typically used (and percentages include decimals).

Carry on.

Today at 11am we will have our first Code Red drill (lockdown/active shooter drill) . Explaining this to children never gets easier, but unfortunately this is our reality. Because of the pandemic, it will look a little different than past years...instead of huddling up and "hiding", the kids will remain in their seats and silent. The police will come by to make sure our doors are locked, etc.

I am telling you this because your kids will most likely come home today telling you all about it, with lots of questions. I do my best to explain the importance of these drills, without scaring the children. I remind them we live in a safe community, where we have loads of wonderful adults, police officers to protect us, teachers that love them, etc. We do this to keep ourselves safe.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Plymouth, England
A 22-year-old gunman who posted YouTube videos filled with despair and self-loathing is suspected of killing five people, including a three-year-old girl, in the worst mass shooting in Britain in more than a decade, police said.

The Thursday night shooting spree in the seaside city of Plymouth, in southwest England, stunned the country, which has some of the toughest gun laws in the world.
Where did he get those ideas?
