From threehundredeight
Week 1: NDP 34.7% CPC 29.6% LPC 26.8% BQ 4.6% GPC 4.0%
Week 2: NDP 31.8% CPC 29.8% LPC 27.5% GPC 5.4% BQ 4.6%
Week 3: NDP 32.7% CPC 29.4% LPC 28.0% GPC 5.1% BQ 3.9%
Week 4: NDP 33.9% CPC 28.4% LPC 27.9% GPC 5.0% BQ 3.8%

Any trends yet? The NDP seems to be going back and forth, while the Liberals are better off now than they were at the start of the campaign. The Conservatives could be slipping, while the Bloc seems to be.
I mentioned before, the Conservatives can no longer win this election. They cannot take any votes away from the leader. (like having no head-to-head games in baseball). The Liberals on the other hand can take votes from both sides. both Pruitt and I have gone from Conservative to Liberal.

I don't fully trust polls, but these morons are seemingly doing everything in their power to piss off as many people as possible while telling bigger lies and getting more defensive than a 14 year old girl.

And Harper tries to stay above the fray - claiming complete ignorance as to what the people in his office were doing - but the buck stops somewhere. Thoroughly sickening.

Degen - do you ever listen to the Canadaland podcast? I'm a fairly regular listener - Jesse Brown does a great job of ripping apart our complacent mass media and by extension, the politicians who lead them around by their nose.

Yes I have listened to it on and off. Not entirely interested in behind-the-scenes media stuff and the Gomeshi stuff was just crazy. Should catch up now that there is an election.

The CBC just ran a short little story about a Conservative candidate in Scarborough. Turns out he was nailed on the show Marketplace in 2012, in a story about home improvement scams. They set up one of those "stings" that are so popular nowadays. You know the kind of thing -- you ask someone to do something, film them with a hidden camera, and watch them be crooks or weirdos or whatever they happen to be.

I don't know if he pulled any real scams, but he did pull something out -- his weiner, so he could take a leak in a coffee cup in a stranger's house, and then throw the offending liquid in the sink. This is on camera, and it ran (I presume) on national TV just a few years ago.

A cursory internet and CBC search didn't pull this story up and it was so weird I might have hallucinated it (it's Sunday, after all). But I hope not, because I'm still snickering about it.

The guy's name last name is "Bance".

Even searching Twitter didn't get me very far.. All I found was one person referring to him as "Pissy Pants Bance" and how maybe he could run the home improvement thing. Also, Jason Kenney spoke at an event for him the other day. This is really taking off!

Pruitt: also looks like the Liberals are way ahead in your riding of York Centre.

I have detailed the sleaze of our MP already - apparently some of his antics have pissed off his Jewish base. And the Liberals are running a Jewish businessman - a guy who runs the biggest Jewish funeral home in the city. A company that does a nice job of helping people through terrible times. Not to be underestimated...

And for the non-Jews here, there is a solid enough Liberal base that now they have a reasonable leader, and now that the tide has turned... the red wave returns to Toronto.

And it looks like Canadians won;t have Jerry Bance to piss on anymore...

Not just that, he was in the riding where the prank caller guy (whose unfunny videos have less than 300 views) was representing the party.

The Conservative campaign will go down in history for its incompetence, paranoia and unintentional comedy gold. They must have felt relieved that the Duffy trial was on hiatus...

An argument could be made that MPs salaries should be doubled so that the gig is more appealing to the types of people who don't piss in cups, out of work actors, members of university political societies and the like.

The salary is 150K for an MP!

It's hard to get people to run in a first to the post system. Especially in ridings where the party has no hope (ie, Greens in Alberta). I praise anyone who puts their name out there, especially to support a party they believe in and not just for a paycheque. And if they ride a wave and happen to win (NDPs in Quebec federally and Alberta provincially) that's great.

The criticism from people is crazy these days. There are 2 lawyers in the currently elected NDP cabinet who are under 40 (and attractive women) and people aren't happy because they're inexperienced.

Harper just hired Lynton Crosby to run his campaign. He got the conservatives elected in the UK and Australia but is most known for going on a foul mouthed racist rant against Muslims while working for the London Mayor.

When is this election anyway? It seems like this campaign has gone on forever.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Do you think that they'll be able to form a government after such a close race (and no small winner of consequence to work with) or will their be additional elections to look forward to?

The short answer is no, it would be defeated almost immediately and we'd be voting again in April.

The longer answer on this exact subject is in this podcast from Canadaland.

There have been minority governments that lasted for a while, but this would be a weird one as both the Liberals and NDP would spend their time trying to make the other side look like idiots, as there really wouldn't be a "junior" partner as such.

We will most likely be doing this again within the year.

NDP is one of the three major parties in a statistical dead heat across the country.

Apparently, one of their candidates made comments on a facebook post that made smart ass remarks about the fences at Auschwitz. She didn't say anything anti-semitic, nor did she make a joke about what went on in the death camp.

But when she was called out on this old joke, she used the defence that she didn't know what Auschwitz was.

Ummm, that's pretty bad.

Her job? School trustee in a fairly large city.

That's really bad. Either she's lying, or this person who helps oversee the board of education in Hamilton is an ignoramus.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/ ... -1.3241065

Social media is starting to take its toll on candidates. In addition to this dim bulb and the guy who posted crude prank clls on facebook, there are these two numbskulls:
Liberal candidate Ala Buzreba dropped out of the race in Alberta's Calgary Nose Hill after four-year-old tweets surfaced of her telling someone they should have been aborted with a coat hanger.

Soheil Eid, a Conservative candidate in Joliette, Que., apologized for a Facebook post that drew a parallel between the words of NDP Leader Tom Mulcair and comments attributed to Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's infamous propaganda minister.
Love this stuff.

What are elections going to be like in a decade when there will be candidates who've been posting crap since they were toddlers. Who hasn't put something out there that they will regret one day.

Home stretch now and while polls are often misleading (and often wholly unscientific) they are all trending in one direction and it looks like Canada may have its second Prime Minister Trudeau.

The bright minds that convinced Stephen Harper to start the official campaign back in early August should never work on an election campaign again. The ruling Conservatives have managed to alienate a lot of their former supporters. No need for details, but come this weekend in Toronto, Stephen Harper will appear in front of what will probably be his biggest crowd of the campaign. The occasion? His appearance at Ford Family Festival featuring everyone's favourite drug abuser, the man who invited hookers into city hall, who has slurred more ethnic groups than I could list, the noted homophobe who (allegedly) threatened to kill his wife...

Rob Ford.

That sound you heard was the last moderate voter in Canada turning away.

Harper was going to always get between 30-35% of the vote. Less then the 40% he got in 2011 to get his only majority government.

The question was how the other 65% would be split and would it split equally enough to keep Harper in power.

Harper is consistent and runs on one message. The economy is key, we will always run a balanced budget, keep taxes low and not waste money. However he could not control what happens to the 65% who hate him.

Within that 65%, this election changed when Mulcair also declared a balanced budget.
"We will tax the rich, not raise taxes on the poor, have national $15/day daycare, move old age back to 65 etc...but still balance the budget in our first year in power"

Trudeau jumped up and said "You will balance the budget?. Bullshit! And why do we need to handcuff Canadians because of a number on a piece of paper. Our roads and transit are shit. We need to invest in that and if it's a 10 billion dollar deficit, who cares?"

Mulcair had no argument for that, how do you even argue that? How does a left wing party argue against a centrist party who just went more left wing then you!
