We bought solar panels several years ago. We are now past the payback and have a minimal electric bill each month. If you get solar and plan to stay in the house awhile, I’d definitely buy your panels rather than rent.

My wife’s cousin sold them to us. She is a fountain of information and not a smarmy douche, if you’d like to chat with her.

That sounds like a solid plan. I'm glad that my new build comes with foam insulation as a standard. Very, very awesome. My home's electric bill is the same compared to the apartment I was in prior to moving despite being 3x the size.

Also, as coincidence would have it I was lurking the Albuquerque subreddit and the topic of solar was at the top. The comments linked this piece:

That's a NM solar company that's been doing business for quite some time there and their warnings for the door to door solar salespeople.

Basically, if they're coming to you they're trying to get you to lease (not finance or buy) from them. It's puts a lien on your home until it's paid off. Also, they get the solar credits and push off low cost or zero down "benefits" to you. It ends up being costly.

It seems like if you want solar there are much better options from local companies that don't need the independent folks hocking everything for them.

We are settling on 1/17 and moving on 1/27. Holy crap.

Maybe this part should be in the autism thread, but...Max has no idea we're moving. Any time the idea of moving is brought up around him it immediately spikes his anxiety/frustration. When his anxiety spikes, so do his behaviors. If you remember, his behaviors can be physicalSo we try not to discuss it. We are trying to minimize the length of time he will have to be anxious to make it easier on him (and us). Anytime he asks if we are "in the process of moving", I ask him if he sees us packing any boxes. I told him when we start packing we are going to be moving. Well....it's time to start packing. It's going to suck ripping off that band-aid.

I know he'll be fine with it eventually. And maybe he'll even surprise me, as he often does, and deal with it calmly. But that's not what I'm expecting.

My wife told Max yesterday about the house and there was a very small period of anxiety and yelling by him, but 15 min later he was fine, excited and wanted to see pictures of the place. Whew.

Independent inspector comes today, official walk through on Monday and we settle on the 17th. Holy crap.

I was just wondering about this when somebody bumped the Autism thread but couldn't remember which thread these updates were coming in. I've gotta imagine 15 min was pretty much the best outcome you could've hoped for. Congrats to you all.

Congrats bfj!

My son has ADHD (as does my daughter), but we also think he might be on the spectrum. He actually said this himself last month while he was home. One thing that he still struggles with is any kind of transition. But what really gets him is any kind of change in plans. It doesn't result in anything violent or too over the top. But, man, it puts him in a really foul mood, which is a nice way of saying he can fuck up a dinner or other outing if he's not on board.
