At least Arian got his injury out of the way early. And I wish we'd take a flyer on Ray Rice.

Seems like you can still get serviceable running backs as undrafted free agents, etc. Teams will be cutting a lot of those guys hoping they pass waivers so they can stash them on the practice squad so you might be able to pick one up before the season starts. I wouldn't worry as much about signing Rice seeing as he's now a) old and b) toxic, figuratively.

I forgot he sucked last time he played, but even if he hadn't, the Texans would never consider it. Sounds like Pierre Thomas might be the guy.

That was my thought, but I heard someone (I think it was Schefter) on ESPN radio saying Rice looked great in the preseason, then had a hip injury that slowed him down all year. He said Rice has been on a crazy workout regime the past year, and is in great shape. They also said the Texans have a zero tolerance policy for domestic violence, and won't consider Rice.

im kind of intrigued by Rice or generally older RBs after a layoff. Not sure he gets tons of snaps but id definitely have a body in camp like that and see if he can do more than a hard yard or two. Really the only thing I dont like is that he probably cant play special teams and of course the fact that he punched his girlfriend. But if thats the standard, im cutting out 15-20% of the talent pool. Cant have that.

Drove to Cincy for two days of training camp. Still fun to see in person. Fantasy football hint: do yourself a favor and grab Eifert as a backup late in your draft at TE and thank me later.

Eric Ebron had a weak rookie year, like most TEs do. And he will not be a top-two option on a team with Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate. But he will be a steal.

rotworld, various Jets fans in my office wrote:Geno Smith will be sidelined 6-10 weeks after breaking his jaw in a "locker room altercation."
Stupefying. According to coach Todd Bowles, Smith was "sucker punched" by LB IK Enemkpali, who has been released. Bowles said the argument was not football related. The injury gifts No. 1 duties to Ryan Fitzpatrick, and destroys what was a golden opportunity for Smith to solidify the Jets' No. 1 job once and for all. Now, his future in New York is murkier than ever. The 6-10 week timeline gives Smith a shot at returning before the Jets' Week 5 bye, but it's far from a certainty. As for the rest of New York's skill corps, the shift from Smith to FitzMagic is largely neutral, and perhaps even an upgrade.

Strange days indeed when the Lions aren't even in the top 10 of the most dysfunctional teams in the NFL. Basic competence and mediocrity seemed such an impossible dream for so long.

In a related story, Bears fans immediately flooded the team's front office with calls to sign Enemkpali.

A Lions fan just called into WFAN to commiserate with Jets fans, and to let them know it gets better.

And this guy was on the team last year. If he is/was well liked by the rest of the defense, this could cause some pretty major issues.

Maybe Geno was saying its possible for a person to believe Brady had zero involvement in the balls being deflated.

Still not worth punching someone and losing your job, but should be noted that $600 isn't an insignificant amount of money even when you're making $300K a year. At a minimum it's not something you'd just laugh off.

I'll guess that the linebacker might be miffed that Geno no-showed his clinic beyond stiffing him for the unused airline ticket cost of $600. That can make you look bad in front of a bunch of kids and parents who paid for the camp.

Yeah, he was right to be angry about that too. Not punch a guy in the face angry either, but it's not exactly inexplicable that things ended up where they did.

No way am I justifying a punch, but the 'disrespect' thing might be to blame, it sure is in many 'negro moments.'

Yeah, well white, black, yellow whatever if I fronted a guy who makes 15 times a year more than I do a few hundred bucks and he's a dick about paying me back, I'm not going to quit dunning him for it.

When "keepin' it real goes wrong?" According to that article, Geno skipped out on the camp to attend a funeral. Seems pretty reasonable. I would hope the guy planned on paying for Geno's ticket if Geno showed up at his camp. OTOH, we don't know how much the guy got paid for punching Geno. Woody might have slipped him a couple million for the hit job.
