Either that came from the front office, hopefully for a far better reason, or a series loss means the end of Mattingly in LA.

Cubs are putting Hammel on the mound today. Looks like Maddon is managing for Game Five.

I'd be willing to assume that Maddon is expecting to get just three innings from Hammel, then go to someone else. But Hammel has been horrible this year the first time through the order. And he has had only one decent start since the middle of August.

I guess there are no other choices based on the roster, but fuck, I would have put Dan Haren on the roster and left Hammel off.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I can't believe Maddon let Hammel bat there.

I can't believe how perfectly that turned out.

Wonder if anyone will dare ask Lackey about throwing a get-ahead fastball in that spot. Shouldn't happen.

It appears Don Mattingly enforced his own 2 game suspension on Utley while in NYC.

In an hour, either Familia or Collins will have had their Mets moment and it can't be both.

Im surprised by that tidbit of information. Nobody has ever hit for the cycle in the playoffs.

I'd be curious what percentage of the cycles were "intentional", like risking third or holding a base.

Whatever happens in the NLCS, we are all going to see something that has not happened in our lifetimes: either the Cubs in the World Series (since 1945), or a Workd Series without any of the 16 original franchises or their antecedents (never). This is also only the second "final four" with three expansion teams, the first since 1986 when the Mets, Astros, and Angels joined the Red Sox in the Championship Series.

It's weird to me that the Cubs could theoretically make it to the Series by playing three old rivals from the NL East.

I wasn't monitoring Twitter last night - any talk about whether Ethier should have let that sac fly drop foul? Granting that him knowing that he's in foul territory would be half the battle.

Its asking a lot of an OF to do that in like the 3rd inning. It wouldn't be a dumb decision, but its not dumb not to either.

I need a second opinion here - should Starlin Castro have made it to third on his hit in the fifth inning over Lagares's head? Especially with the throw going to home? The replay looked like Castro just stood there and watched his hit instead of running right away.
