I don't think so since he is the new default "King in the North," right? But probably since this was a Lannister power play. Good call on the baby being named Eddard being a foreshadow too. (I also called that. /thatguy.)

And the episode was called "Red Wedding?" There another indicator blood was happening.

The episode was named 'The Rains of Castamere'.

Edmure would not be crowned King of the North since he doesn't have any Stark blood. Since everyone assumes all the Starks are dead except Sansa, Sansa's husband (Tyrion) would be the Lord of Winterfell (and not The King of the North since that would be treason against his nephew, King Joffrey).

Ok then. That makes sense. I just remember the old guy saying that he wanted his daughter married to a king and figured he alluded to that with Robb getting taken out.

He mentioned that as another reminder of Robb betraying House Frey when he married Talisa.

Walder had a long history of being betrayed, so this was the straw that broke the camels back. Frey also wanted to get back in the Lannister's good graces after he had gone against them at the onset of the war (which he only did in order to have his daughter married to a king). The only way to prove his loyalty to the Lannisters (and earn a bit of their trust) was to kill Robb.

Ditto - wasted half of my holiday reading the first book last summer and decided that life was too short to invest any further.

Saying that, this week, I have a new-found respect for the author for having the guts and sense of realism needed to be able to kill off a bunch of good guys. I am thoroughly enjoying the reactions of people who have seemingly invested quite a lot of thought and emotion in a television show.

When that happened in the book, I had to put the book down for awhile.

I know they're following the books, but I really kind of wish there wasn't a show next week. That episode was a dropkick in the nuts.

No kidding. The reviewer at AV Club compared him to Ned Stark and we know what happened to him. Last night's episode had a lot of ground to cover and I thought it did so pretty well. I wished it was 2 hours to give a little more, but what can you do. Arya as a cold blooded killer was interesting as was The Hound's reaction to her stealing his dagger. Her storyline has a lot of potential.

Great little tidy up of everything. The storylines finally overlap as well. I was also wondering if they'd show the body desecration of Robb and they did. They didn't go the extra route and have Caitlyn's body get desecrated as well however.

Also, this moment was hysterical:

Just finished A Dance with Dragons. Fucking GRRM may have killed off one of the handful of characters I thought was safe. There are a lot of balls still up in the air, but at least I don't think he added anymore. Well, maybe one big one, I guess. Man...

Teasers for the trailer for the new season, which is itself due to be released on Sunday.

I usually hate the teasers for teasers thing, but there is some cool shit in there.

I'm all caught up on the books, but have not seen past the first season of the TV show. I wanted to get my wife into it, so we grabbed season one from the library this week and got through it in five nights. She had bought me season two at some point, and we started that last night. I need to get her to the end of season three without any of the loudmouths she works with spoiling it for her.

It was interesting to hear The Hound use the phrase "a man's got to have a code" in last night's episode. The Hound is becoming the Omar of Game of Thrones?

Am I that oblivious, or did they change the actor playing Daario Naharis over the break?

OK, just did some research, and the S3 actor dropped out because he'll be starring in a reboot of the "Transporter" series. Who the fuck is this guys agent? Dr. Vinny Boombatz?

I hated the uber-douchey Harlequin romance approach they took with the original actor, but re-casting someone so different was jarring.

Thought this was the best season premiere since the first. Especially compared to last season, which kind of dragged until around episodes 4-5. Also:
  • 1. Oberyn (bisexual Inigo Montoya) is going to be fantastic.
    2. If/when Joffrey dies, the president should go on TV to address the nation like when we killed Bin Laden.
    3. Arya and the Hound should have gotten a feature-length movie spin-off treatment.
