Joe Buck said this is baseball at its best. A pitcher with a ball in his hand and a batter with a bat in his hands. Which describes literally every at bat in the history of baseball (excepting maybe the time Norm Cash took a table leg up against Nolan Ryan.)

Wait, the Royals came back and won? I turned the TV off after Familia got the first out in the ninth because I figured there was no chance the Royals would come back.

Not to be a douche, but if that same play happened in NY, would the inside the park job have been an error?

Probably not. Because (1) the route was so bad or so slow it ceased being routine and (2) its more of a fuck you to a fielder to call that an error than it is to the pitcher to give the earned run.

But the ball went past his glove and hit him in the leg. If an infielder does that it's an error.

Not if its a SS in the 5.5 hole, which is probably the equivalent. I'm not arguing it shouldn't have been caught, there are a dozen or more CFs who catch that ball coasting, but its probably not an official scoring error many places.

Are people really upset about Fox's decision to not talk about Volquez's father's death mid-game to avoid the longshot-but-non-zero possibility he would hear it from them?

I am fine with Fox holding back. In fact, I am kinda impressed at their restraint. It seems odd his family and his employers would not tell this news to a grown man, but I appreciate the club following the wishes of his wife.

I'm not upset with anyone or anything, it just seems weird.

DeGrom has thrown 74 pitches. Royales have swung through and missed one.

eta: Hosmer swung through his 80th pitch. Before driving in two.

That guy was almost murdered earlier this year in a robbery at his house. He walked in on the people -- apparently from his neighborhood -- as it was happening and was shot. Has a huge scar on his stomach now and had to relearn to walk. Walks with a cane.

Article on the declining viewership of baseball, low ratings for this world series; demographic issues; comparisons vs. other sports, etc. Worth a read.

Good read. I think it's the lack of star power. Mets and Royals are great teams with no stars. Perhaps baseball does a poor job or marketing? The Royals needed to be on tv more.

Or football is king and people only have to much time for sports in their schedule.

Who are the stars in baseball today. Harper? Trout? who are the best pitchers? Kershaw? King Felix? Sale?
None of these guys are near the World Series.

I can tell you one big reason: the game Monday ended at 1:30 AM Tuesday. I'm a big baseball fan and I couldn't do it, so you sure as shit aren't keeping any casual fans around.

true but that's not a new thing. They been starting World Series games at 8pm since 85 when NBC signed a big tv deal.

Here's one for you trivia buffs. World Series games for the longest time went Sat-Sun, Tues-Wed-Thurs, Sat-Sun
Game 5 of the 86 World Series ran into the Cosby Show on Thursday night. First pitch was pushed back to 8:40pm. Guess which got the higher ratings?

And, Sunday night Game 5 will go head to head with Packers-Broncos. MLB should have scheduled a 5pm EST start Sunday. they could have honed in on the opening in the NFL schedule and had the game end just before the 8:30 NFL game.

MLB is not the King of sports anymore. They need to realize that and adjust accordingly.

NFL used to not have Sunday night games if there was a WS game at same time. Not sure when that changed.
