Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
Timothy Olyphant is great...but its starting to feel like he just plays the same character (Seth Bullock from Deadwood being the original) translated to different settings...present day Kentucky in Justified, 50's Kansas in the latest season of Fargo, and now space.
But boy...is that baby Yoda cute!

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
Well Mandalorian is just a western. And they lean into it. Small one-horse towns, the speeder bikes as horses. I mean hell this episode basically is the plot of most classic Westerns. And if you watch the closing credits the storyboard art work points at it even more. So give me Olyphant and more of the Deadwood cast (W Earl Brown was in this episode). Should only help (because Leguizamo's role did not do it for me..).
Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
2nd episode was the drizzling shits. Don't bother if you haven't watched yet.

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
Too harsh? Especially if the whole trip ends up being a dead end and Sedaris was just using him to make a little extra scratch.
Love that pudgy-looking bearded x-wing pilots are still a thing.

Now I enjoy the Mandolorian as much as the next guy...but its pretty ridiculous that you have to go read a 4000 word articles (‘The Mandalorian,’ Chapter 13 Recap: Baby Yoda Has a Name—and Fans Have a Lot to Process), complete with multiple video links, to understand who some of the characters are in an episode.

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
I never regularly watched Clone Wars or Rebels, but I know who this week’s character was and I recognized the name revealed at the end because
The one time I really felt like I missed something and did some after the fact reading was the weapon that showed up in the finale last season. Even then I got the point that he was a baaaad man without that. If I’ve missed other nods or outright references I feel like it hasn’t affected my ability to follow, so I feel like they’ve done a good job of balancing possible casual viewers with the rabid superfans.

I view the Mandolorian as GoT. You don't need to know all of the back stories to enjoy it.

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
Wait, did I see it was a big deal that they revealed the name of Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian? Isn't his name "Yoda"? What am I missing?

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
So you were under impression the Mandalorian is Yoda's origin story?

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
In part, yes. I knew that wasn't what the show was about though. So that's not the same Yoda that tutored Luke Skywalker?

It is not.

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
OK, well that explains a lot then. So "Baby Yoda" is a misnomer unless the race of creatures are called "yodas". I'm probably overthinking this at this point.

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
Mandalorian takes place post Return of the Jedi. Yoda has already curled up and come back as a ghost.

Yes. Yes you are.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.
Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
Baby Yoda is the term the media applied to him. He is the "The Child" in the programme (unless he's named later, I'm not up to date on the show as I watch it with the boy on Friday evenings.)
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
Is there a chance it is Yoda re-born? Is that a thing in Star Wars worldview?
Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
No. Yoda was alive when this one was being raised/trained. They hid this one when all the Padawans where wacked by Anakin. This "baby Yoda" is 50 years old.tennbengal wrote: ↑Tue Dec 01, 2020 3:25 pm Is there a chance it is Yoda re-born? Is that a thing in Star Wars worldview?

I don’t agree with this at all. It’s just a bigger galaxy. There’s room for more stories beyond sky walker.

At what point does it just become a pathetic cash grab? The 10th spinoff? The 20th? The 30th?

I like the Back To The Future movies. All of em to some degree but I don’t need to know how Marty’s great-great-great-great-great grandkid is doing.

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
As ab said, they are working with so much more than what BTTF was working with. So many planets and systems to work with. 1000s of species and races. Huge timeline to work with. So many possibilities. And if done as well as Mandolorian, then I am all for it.

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
Yeah not close to an apt comparison.
Also those movies suck. I don’t care for any of them that much. Which probably gets to the point.

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
The original Star Wars is pretty much a joke coherently if we’re gonna have that discussion. A bunch of people decided this dude created a universe and now here we are where it’s above criticism.

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
THats not true at all either. Several of the nine canon movies suck balls beyond redemption. Most hardcore fans have several things they hate.

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
Nothing in Star Wars is above criticism. But to compare them to BTTF is just down right ridiculous. Maybe it is just your angst about moving and not being able to get any In-N-Out for a long time.

I’ve seen a lot of things set brian off over the years here but never really been puzzled by one as much as I am by this one.
Anyway, I didn’t know this!

Feels like they're fat shaming him by calling his character "Porkins". Way to be classy, George Lucas!
