I like JJ but had some major issues with TFA.

I liked TLJ but had minor issue with it.

I think most of my issues with TLJ can be traced to TFA.

I’m worried TSR might too much a response to the backlash to TLJ, and too much a direct sequel to TFA.

I’m worried there wasn’t one vision for the overall story here and it might not end up working,
Can I get this with English subtitles?

I was drunk and angry and talking at AB. I might need some help, too.

I think I’m worried about the development path this trilogy has followed. I liked the direction the last film went, but this one is going back to the creative team from the prior movie. That director makes cool looking films but I don’t know if he’s ever made a fully great movie.

Anybody else bummed with Disney's lack of imagination beyond the stale Jedi/dark side stuff?

The Star Trek re-boot he did was pretty damn great.

I think it’s his best, and I think you and gushed together at some point about how fantastic the pre-title sequence is, but it has some plot-y issues, and his sequel was...something. Misfire or ill-conceived is probably too strong, but it was problematic, and I think some of the problems I had with it were there on display in TFA.

If it’s going where the end of the trailer suggested it might, yes. Especially after what the last film seemed to say about the Jedi Order.

I like to pretend his Khan followup never happened.

In a perfect universe, the Jedi would’ve died out. The “dark side”, too. But the vacuum created would’ve featured warring clans and grassroots good guys. Multiple solar systems spanning 3 movies. Then the next three are a unified clan vs a unified good guys. Shit would write itself.

Taking this one out of the Disney thread because I'm assuming only fans will want to drop $200 on it. This looks corny, nostalgic, stupid, fun, and awesome. In other words, perfectly Star Wars.

Here's my theory: The Jedi die, but a new order rises, the new ones are called Skywalker.

The state of my fandom is such that I'll be there opening weekend but I'm honestly just as interested in seeing how much of TLJ Abrams decides to walk back or outright ignore as am in seeing the actual resolution of the Skywalker Saga.

Looks like you actually had room to move in there. We're probably headed down there late next year, and I'm already pre-stressed about wrangling all of the reservations and fast passes to make sure we get to see everything we want to see. Ugh.

At least this looks pretty good:

I feel the same way about the Star Trek show ‘Picard’ on whatever CBS is doing online.

Bounty Hunters / Han Solo are the best thing about the Star Wars universe, bar none. I’d definitely be interested in that.

Yeah, I said the same elsewhere about Picard and CBS' service. The trailer looks really good.

I did already pre-register for Disney+, though. The wife and kids want it, plus I'm flush with cash after dumping DirecTV/Verizon for Comcast.

It was pretty packed in there, but they did a pretty good job of keeping people moving through. Had to have reservations to get in, 45 minute/2 drink max limits.

Hope so, too. Also, when the big reveal happened, I legit yelled and had to stand up and pace around. I was a mess.

But let's talk about how fucking spoiled bounty hunters are. The fobs take them straight there! That's not bounty hunting, that's bounty uber!

I agree. Could have used a bounty hunting montage (talkin bout a montage!), showing him chasing down some leads to at least get to the right planet or something.

You're probably not wrong. Though they're showing great restraint and consideration for spoilers by waiting to flood the market with toys, if that indeed does happen.

Going to skip the "judge me by my size" joke and just say maybe he had some prior practice at pulling the old X-Wing out the swamp before Luke failed to do it the first time he tried.

The Toys That Made Us had an episode on this. Lucas timed the prequels to coincide with the expiring of the contract for the toys for the original trilogy. Apparently there wasn't much thought put into the original contract as they didn't anticipate the boom in the toy line, and so Lucas waited until he could sign a much more lucrative one. The argument that the movies are just advertisements to sell merch is valid.

Baby Yoda Has Conquered the World

The Herzog anecdote at the beginning is great, as is this:
The puppet, the realness of it, is a triumph of design. The inside of his sideways bunny ears is the color of a sunset on your happiest day. His supple green skin is the texture of pistachio pudding, and his bottomless black eyes are so massively dilated they can only see the goodness in us.

Disney Parks YouTubers I trust (and who are generally hard to please with anything new) are crapping themselves over how good the Rise of the Resistance ride apparently is. The pre-ride stuff here looks pretty cool on its own, but look how much happens in that one vehicle once you get going.
