Does it seem like more comics today seem to define themselves as “edgy bad boys” because they didn’t care about Covid, aren’t woke at all, and are gratuitously in your face about it?

It is indeed a boring shtik/trope for too many, yes. I blame Chapelle in some part.

Chappelle is definitely the most disappointing of all of them, atleast personally.

Because he is CHAPPELLE I think too many of the legions of upcoming and new and struggling comics see him and just drift toward that. Sucks.

It's pretty lazy joke writing imho, and not at all surprising that it mostly comes from late-career comics.

“I came to an understanding that other people came to much sooner than I did … You don’t want to have a joke be misunderstood and then someone goes and beats up a trans person.”

Contrast Norm to the rest of the "no one tells me what I can and can't joke about" and its pretty easy to see why its both simple and responsible to avoid targeting certain groups.

Yeah, he opened for Bert on his most recent tour. And Bert and his wife were the producers on that special.
Shane is also a regular on the podcast All Fantasy Everything. He's referenced pretty regularly, as well.

Saw most of his abysmal last Netflix show.

So much of it was offensive, nasty joking followed by "oh come on, it's just a joke" Very tiring indeed.

That's what helped make Jo Koy's opening for the latest Golden Globes extra brutal. Blaming bad jokes on his writers and constantly mentioning that he just got the gig 10 days ago.

It's a cardinal sin. It's one thing to do a Dangerfield and say "tough crowd" or words to that effect, but to acknowledge that even you think the material sucks? Unheard of.

Apparently Nick Swardson was too fucked up to perform last night and had to be led off stage.

Ah, man... Hate to see that. Nick has always seemed like he's on the edge of something like that. He's had some crazy health scares the last 4 or 5 years, which I thought would've straightened him out a bit, but... apparently not.

His excuse that he got rocked by an edible was perfectly crafted for me to believe it, if that helps.

Well sure ... I've drank heavily at a sporting event but I've never gone into the bathroom and turned on the shower as hot as it goes then 15 minutes later when my roommates finally pushed in the door I didn't try to act like I was fine by saying I was just washing my hands except when I said that I was kneeling in front of the toilet. We all have our little same process but different results quirks.

(And I've never gone above 10 mg. I have no idea what he took.)

I shared that joke with my wife and she just rolled her eyes knowing I definitely would've been escorted off any stage I hypothetically could have been on at various points during our vacations there over the years.

I don't want to be all judgy, but c'mon... Did he not know the dosage? That, in and of itself, is insane to me.

ETA - I've had friends give me something and they were fuzzy on the mg's... but that's, like.. "I think this is a 5, but it's possible it's a 10."

I've heard enough stories about comedians giving other comedians 100mg or 500mg edibles as a prank to not assume it was a normal dosage.

Yeah, and stories around Ari Shafir dosing Bert K with acid (or something, maybe it was Molly). I know those stories... I just think ppl taking edibles and not having a clue about the dosage is really fucking dumb. Go have some beers or gin and tonics or whatever.

I'm definitely an outlier when it comes to stand up, because I've gotten pretty bored with the standard fare. This dude, coming from the Kill Tony comedy-verse is absolutely killing me.

If you don't know Kill Tony, the premise is that EXTREMELY green comics (not open mic level, but maybe a year or two past starting) get up and do about 3 minutes and professional comics roast them.. OR... They are like "this dude/dudette" is unique and funny as fuck. Here's another example of a guy they have latched onto.

Kam Patterson is his name and he is getting a lot of attention from the clips that get put on on Kill Tony.

If you saw the non verbal stand up comic with CP on America's Got Talent (Aaron Belisle, I think), he's on Kill Tony also and he is way more blue. Much funnier than the G-rated stuff on network TV.
